True Detective - Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey as Rustin "Rust" Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Martin "Marty" Hart, two Louisiana State Police homicide detectives who investigate a bizarre series of ritualistic murders in 1995. Their investigation is framed and interlaced by their testimony seventeen years later, as the now former detectives are interviewed by Detectives Maynard Gilbough (Michael Potts) and Thomas Papania (Tory Kittles) after a series of similar murders occurs. Season 1 consists of eight episodes, all of which were written by Nic Pizzolato and directed by Cary Joji Fukanaga.
Detective Rustin "Rust" Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) uses a SIG-Sauer P226 as his sidearm while posing as a biker in 1995. Cohle continues to use the P226 in 2012 when he and Hart re-investigate the murder case.
A gang member also appears to draw a snub-nosed Smith & Wesson Model 629 when a drug stash house is raided in episode 4, "Who Goes There".
Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark I
A Desert Eagle Mark I can be seen when Cohle opens a foot locker containing weapons from his days as an undercover narcotics officer in episode 4.
Glock 17
While conversing with Hart about his undercover days in episode 4, Cohle examines and loads a Glock 17 pistol. The Glock 17 also appears to be Cohle's duty weapon while he is with the Louisiana State Police CID.
M1911A1
Hart takes a nickle-plated M1911A1 pistol with pearl grips away from Sheriff Steve Geraci (Michael Harney) when they interrogate him about the disappearance of Marie Fontenot in episode 7, "After You've Gone".
Shotguns
Winchester Model 1912 (Sawed-Off)
Winchester Model 1912 shotguns with sawn-off stocks are used by Ginger (Joseph Sikora) and his fellow bikers when they rob a stash house in the projects during episode 4, "Who Goes There".
Submachine Guns
Intratec TEC-9
A guard at the drug stash house in episode 4 holds a Intratec TEC-9 before being subdued by Cohle.
IMI Uzi
A gang member is handed an Uzi submachine gun when responding to the arrival of the police in episode 4.
Rifles
AKMS
A custom shortened AKMS rifle can be seen in Cohle's foot locker in episode 4. A gang member in the same episode is later seen cocking a similar (likely the same) AKMS.
AKM
Cohle fires an AKM with a drum magazine in episode 5, "The Secret Fate of All Life". Note that in the slow-motion sequence where Cohle intends to empty the drum, he instead ends up with a stoppage of some kind (the bolt halts in the feeding phase and a blank round is seen, still in the magazine).
Other
M67 Hand Grenade
A pair of M67 hand grenades can be seen in Cohle's locker in episode 4. A M67 attached to a trip-wire is seen in episode 5 as Cohle and Hart approach the residence of Reggie LeDoux (Charles Halford).
