The Snowtown Murders
The Snowtown Murders is a 2011 Australian film directed by Morten Tyldum and starring Lucas Pittaway and Daniel Henshall. The film is based on the true case of the "Snowtown" or "Bodies in Barrels" serial murders which occurred from 1992 to 1999 in South Australia. The film centres around Jamie Vlassakis (Pittaway), an abused teenager who takes to his mother's charismatic new boyfriend John Bunting (Henshall), only to be drawn into a series of vigilante murders as Bunting uses accusations of pedophilia and homosexuality to justify torturing and murdering people in the community.
Though a double-barreled shotgun and other weapons were used in the actual murders, the film, which is an artistic and impressionist film rather than a standard true-crime drama, features only one firearm, but used in a pivotal scene.
