The Roses of the Desert
The following weapons appear in the 2006 film The Roses of the Desert:
Beretta M1934
The Italian officers, including Maj. Stefano Strucchi (Alessandro Haber) and Lt. Marcello Salvi (Giorgio Pasotti), are armed with Beretta Modello 34.
Moschetto Carcano Mod. 91/38 Cavalleria
Various italian soldiers of mixed units are armed with Carcano M91/38 Cavalry Carbine.
Carcano Mod. 91/24
The Italian soldiers from the medical unit of the Minotauro division are armed mainly with Carcano short rifles, identifiable by the full size rear sights. Over the years the development of Carcano rifles series was quite troubled, full of a lot of updates and fixes. For this reason, in the case of The Roses of the Desert, Carcano Mod. 91/24 shown have unusual position belt loops, in the middle of the front.
Carcano Mod. 91 Truppe Sepciali Modificato
Some Italian soldiers from the medical unit are armed with Carcano Mod. 91 Special Troops Modified. Note the small rear sight.
Karabiner 98k
Wehrmacht units are mainly armed with K98k rifles.
MP40
Some of the wehrmacht soldiers are armed with MP40.
Breda Modello 37
In defense of the perimeter of the field hospital there are Breda Modello 37 heavy machineguns.
Schwarzlose Machine Gun Model 07/12 (mock-up)
The soldiers install a Schwarzlose machine gun for anti-aircraft defense. The Schwarzlose machine guns were confiscated by the Kingdom of Italy at the Astro-Hungarian Empire, as well as many other light and heavy weapons, after the allied victory in the First World War. These weapons were assigned to the colonial Italian native troops (for example Steyr M95 was assigned to many indigenous corps) or rear troops, such as medical troops. The one shown in the film, it is probably a mock-up, since during firing the belt fed does not move and we can note hidden on the bottom a small curved magazine.
