Talk:Zero Dark Thirty
Unknowns (updated 03/13)
Would anyone like to make an educated guess on what these weapons are? --Ben41 (talk) 19:50, 24 March 2013 (EDT)
This is a Glock, probably a 17;it looks as though it has night sights, rather than the usualfactory type. The holster is a London Bridge Tactical 0372L, and seems to have the thumbsnap adjusted for a gun slightly larger than the Glock(maybe a SIG)and also doesn't have the rubber "Oring" tab which can also be looped over the rear of the pistol slide. Good catch. The guard in the tower looks to have an M4... Regards, Tecolote March 24,2013
- Zooming in as much as possible, I can barely make out what looks like an O-shaped front site on the weapon in the guard tower and what looks like a belt of rounds being fed from the right side. Other than that, nothing stands out. --DeltaOne (talk) 04:37, 25 March 2013 (EDT)
- Is it feeding from the shooter's right or right side from our perspective? --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:53, 25 March 2013 (EDT)
- Shooter's right side. Spartan198 (talk) 17:45, 25 March 2013 (EDT)
- A PKM then? Not a lot of modern machine guns feed from the right. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:57, 25 March 2013 (EDT)
- The shot could be mirrored for all we know. The entire Camp Chapman sequence was filmed in Jordan, so my guess would be a FN MAG. --Markit (talk) 19:10, 25 March 2013 (EDT)
- The warning sign is not backwards though. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:28, 25 March 2013 (EDT)

Am thinking that is an Heckler & Koch HK417 in a DMR/sniper configuration. --Charon68 (talk) 00:18, 7 January 2013 (EST)
Looks like it to me. Spartan198 (talk) 11:39, 7 January 2013 (EST)
- Just saw the movie on IMAX last night and I agree that it's gotta be an HK417. ISS appears to have bought a couple of them in the last year (one was used in a recent episode from Season 4 of NCIS: Los Angeles).
- Also, did anyone notice anything strange about the firearms sound effects during the scene where Maya gets ambushed while leaving her house? The AKs and MP5 used in the scene almost seemed to make a "whistling" sound when fired. -MT2008 (talk) 17:04, 12 January 2013 (EST)
- Eh... I've been tempted, but have held off so far. I heard from a friend back in September that a boycott of the movie was spreading among the SEAL teams (and still gaining strength, from my last conversation with her) over the issue of the production team being given classified information about the raid by the CIA and decided to tack myself onto it. I'll probably see the movie eventually, but most likely not until it's on TV. I'm certainly not going to be putting my bucks into its GR. Spartan198 (talk) 17:58, 15 January 2013 (EST)
Title
On another note, what exactly does "Zero Dark Thirty" mean? Spartan198 (talk) 17:59, 15 January 2013 (EST)
"Zero Dark Thirty" refers to the military designation for half past midnight, the time at which, the raid against Osama Bin Laden's compound was launched. On a sidenote, I think you should definitely check the movie out. The scene of the actual raid is one of the most expertly crafted and realistic I've ever seen. Also, as far as I know, the whole "inside information" thing is a myth. - Phalanx
Armed guards at Camp Chapman aren't CIA SAD agents, but Blackwater employees
See this article about the attack on Camp Chapman in 2009.

The film didn't portray them as CIA agents either.

Here's a link to a YouTube video about the film which mentions and shows the HK416s and SIG P226Rs(even though you can't actually see the latter in the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n55Busgh15Y&feature=player_embedded
Also, I came across a production still whichs shows one of the SEALs with an HK in his holster; holster are made by LBT, by the way...

Behind the Scene screen shots
There's a lot of behind the scenes close up of the guns and that all the SEAL actors had P226s as their side arms Excalibur01 (talk) 12:19, 16 April 2013 (EDT)
