Red Dawn is the 2012 remake of the 1984 Charlie Sheen/Patrick Swayze film of the same name. The remake stars Chris Hemsworth (as Jed Eckert) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (as Lt Col. Andrew Tanner) and involves an invasion of the continental United States by a powerful, Communist-backed enemy force. Originally, the invaders were depicted as originating from China, but has since been changed to North Korea; this is mainly due to concern that a negative depiction of the PLA may result in the Chinese government banning any future MGM films, such as the upcoming 23rd James Bond film (Similar concerns and changes also happened during the development of the videogame Homefront, which itself is also a story about a powerful Communist force invading the United States).
The following weapons will appear in the remake of the film Red Dawn:
Matt Eckert (Josh Peck) fires a MAC-10 while ambushing North Korean soldiers.
Assasult Rifles
AKM (Modified to resemble AK-103)
The standard assault rifle of the Korean Peoples Army (KPA) in the film appears to be the AKM, visually modified with the addition of plastic furniture and AK-74-style muzzle brakes to resemble the AK-103. Russian soldiers are also equipped with similar AKMs, but with additional full-length railed handguards.
AKMS
Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise) holds an AKMS with the folding stock removed in a publicity still. Matt Eckert also uses one while attempting to free his girlfriend Erica (Isabel Lucas).
AKMSU
The AKMSU carbines modified with KCI quad rail systems are used by KPA soldiers. Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth) also is shown using an AKMSU carbine in publicity stills.
Norinco Type 56
In addition to the AKM, Norinco Type 56 rifles, distinguishable by their hooded sights, are also used to imitate the AK-103. Robert (Josh Hutcherson) is seen using one such rifle.
Colt M4A1 carbine
USMC Colonel Andrew Tanner (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his subordinates Hodges (Matt Gerald) and Smith (Kenneth Choi) are seen among the Wolverines with M4A1 carbines. Tanner's M4A1 is fitted with an ACOG sight, tac light, and sound suppressor.
