The Long Good Friday is a 1980 British gangster film directed by John Mackenzie, starring Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren , with Bryan Marshall and Derek Thompson. Not only was it a breakthrough role for Bob Hoskins, it featured many young actors who went onto greater fame, such as Pierce Brosnan , Daragh O'Malley , Dexter Fletcher and Kevin McNally. The film was actually finished a year before it was released, as rights issues held it up. It was voted #21 on the British Film Institute's top 100 British films of the 20th century.
