QBZ 95

Finally the actual stand in weapon for the Chinese military. At least they didn't have the Chinese with AKs Excalibur01

This movie was filmed in British Columbia, and as we've seen on TV shows like Stargate: Atlantis, the Canadian armorers can buy the QBZ rifles (and have evidently done so). Whereas American armorers can't. -MT2008

The weapons are almost surely going to be the QBZ-97, rather than the -95, because it's only the 5.56x45mm version that is available in Canada (where this movie was filmed). Also, those are the versions that we've seen in Stargate: Atlantis, and remember that the armorers that supplied that show are the same ones who supplied this movie. -MT2008 11:57, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Uniforms

Are those Multicam uniforms that the U.S. troops are wearing? As much as the ACU might have its (well-known) faults, it seems pretty optimistic to expect its replacement by 2012. :) -MT2008 04:51, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Well, the US Army is actually fielding multicam uniforms to troops in/deploying to Afghanistan as of this year [1]. But I sure do hope that's the only thing the movie accurately predicts... :O Spartan198 08:24, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I recall hearing that the Multicam was being fielded on a limited basis in Afghanistan, but I didn't hear anything about whether or not it's being standardized. Would be nice, though, since the ACU was clearly a bad idea. -MT2008 17:33, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I've seen alot of photos in Afghanistan and the ACUs actually blend in pretty well. The problem is that the ACUs are supposed to be a "Universal" Camouflage(The correct term for the actual pattern is UCP) and its basically worthless in a woodland environment. --AdAstra2009 20:17, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

I've never understood why they just didn't go with the MARPAT patterns (woodland and desert) used by the Marines. I realize that there's inter-service rivalry and all, but for years, the services all used the woodland camo BDUs and desert DCUs without any issues. -MT2008 14:16, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

I think the Army was just pissed that the Marines beat them to it when getting digital camo, so the Army top brass didn't want to adopt what's already been established as the Marine camouflage pattern.--Wildcards 22:51, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Even if the Army had considered MARPAT, the Marines would have thrown a fit about it like they unsuccessfully did when SOCOM started developing their AOR camos. This business with every branch and unit within wanting their own individual patterns is vain and superficial BS that should be nipped in the bud.
