Red Dead Redemption (2010)

The following weapons appear in the video game Red Dead Redemption:

Handguns

Single Action Army

In-game, it appears to take it's name and likeness from an 1873 Uberti Cattleman Replica. This is the first handgun you start with and it's good enough to last you through the first third of the game. The game devs pretty much got this gun right except John Marston manages to fire the pistol without pulling back on the hammer. It's considerable ingame but in cinematics it sticks out like a sore thumb. It uses Revolver Ammunition.

Volcanic Pistol

Called the "Volcanic Pistol" in game. It is a pretty average gun, it basically seems like a Cattleman's Revolver but with 8 shots. It is first available at the gunsmith in Armadillo. Really nothing special. The gun is almost worth skipping over since it runs off Pistol Ammunition, which at the beginning of the game is both rare and expensive. It's fire rate is also a bit slower than the Cattleman.

Smith & Wesson No. 3 Revolver

Called the "Schofield Revolver" ingame this is given to you when you first get to Mexico. Has faster reloading than the Cattleman Revolver (Peacemaker) but has pretty much the same stopping power. It uses Revolver Ammunition.

Borchardt C-93

Called 'Semi-Automatic Pistol' In-game. This is the first "new age" handgun that you come across in the game. It looks god awful sticking out of the holster but it is a good firearm. It holds seven shots and can be first purchased at the gunsmith in Escalera once you get to Mexico. A free one can be obtained if the player clears out the Fort Mercer bandit hideout after the mission 'We'll Be Together In Paradise' Uses Pistol Ammunition.

Colt New Army revolver

It is named the 'Double Action Revolver' In-game. It is pretty powerful which must make it a .45 of some sort and it is the fastest firing revolver in the game. It also reloads a little faster than the Schofield and LeMat. It becomes available sometime during the Mexican missions and uses Revolver Ammunition. What real life gun it is exactly is still up for debate.

close up

I change my answer to a Colt Police Positive. I saw it listed on an official list of features over on IGN boards. I think that would make most sense since that way the more powerful Peacemaker would still reign supreme as a more powerful handgun. It's the classic video game trade off. Faster firing but less powerful, as opposed to slower firing but more power. Still like the above poster said, we won't know until it's out but I, Cole Thorton, am calling it here and now that it will be a Police Positive.

its a close call but im pretty sure its a new service, take a closer look.

it could be a colt M1899 Revolver in .38 Long Colt

I think I may have figured this one finally, judgeing by its appearance it is most likely a Colt M1892 Revolver, which was the standard issue revolver for US Army Troops during the US-Philippines War, which lasted, if you include the Moro Rebellion, from 1899 to 1913. This was the offical sidearms of the US Army before the M1911 was issued.

LeMat Revolver

Called the "LeMat Revolver" ingame. It is sold at the gunsmith's shop in Escalera but for some reason is not available for purchase until after the Mexican missions. It holds 9 shots but the under barrel shotgun function is not usable. Unlike what the RDR wiki said before the actual game released the reloading is actually pretty fast since it's break action like the Schofield. This was obviously an idea lifted from the old TV western Johnny Ringo. http://www.johnnyringo.net/Pictures/LeMatopen91CU.jpg It uses Revolver Ammunition. It is one of the rare weapons.

Mauser C96

The machine pistol of the game, with that it is somewhat anarchistic since the first full auto Mauser was not around in 1911. Called the Mauser Pistol in game, it holds 15 shots and is first available at the gunsmith in Blackwater. It uses Pistol Ammunition. It is one of the rare (or just really expensive) weapons.

Colt Model 1903/1908

Called 'High Powered Pistol' in-game. An interesting weapon, due to it being the most powerful handgun in the game you would think Rockstar would have just made it the Colt M1911 (maybe they wanted to be original?) and had done with it. It is certainly modeled off of the Colt 1903/08 (no argument there) but it acts like a Colt 1911. It holds 8 shots and is earned once you first get to Blackwater. Uses Pistol Ammunition.

Rifles

Spencer Model 1860 Carbine

Called the "Repeating Carbine" ingame. This is the first rifle we get in the game and is the weakest. The weapon has a somewhat slow rate of fire compared to later repeaters. It holds 7 shots and uses Repeater Ammunition.

Despite the fact that the real Spencer is loaded from a tube magazine in the butt-stock, the game depicts the rifle as a seven-round repeating breech-loader. Someone didn't do their homework.

Winchester 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine

Called the "Winchester Repeater" ingame. This is the second rifle that the player gets, it can either be purchased from the gunsmith in Armadillo or received during an early mission soon after. Holds 10 shots and is a very reliable long arm for a good portion of the game. It uses Repeater Ammunition.

1873 Trapdoor Springfield Cavalry Carbine

Called the "Springfield Rifle" ingame. This can be purchased from the gunsmith in Thieves' Landing and is a great hunting gun.The only real flaw is that expensive Rifle Ammunition is largly unavailable on enemies until late in the Mexican chapter. It unrealistically holds 4 shots instead of one and it appears that John Marston works the gun like a bolt action between shots (or he could just be pulling back on the hammer, but it sure looks like a bolt action maneuver). It uses Rifle Ammunition.

Krag-Jørgensen Rifle

Called the "Bolt Action Rifle" in game. This weapon has a fast reload rate thanks to the stripper clips and is also pretty powerful. The firing speed is about the same as the Henry Repeater but the range is slightly improved. It can first be purchased at the gunsmith in Escalera. It holds 5 shots and uses Rifle Ammunition.

1860 Henry Rifle

Called the "Henry Repeater" ingame. This is the third repeating rifle that the player gets, it is first available in Mexico while doing a side quest, which leads into a gang hideout side mission. It holds 12 shots and has a faster firing and reload speed than the Winchester Repeater, though the stopping power is equal. Uses Repeater Ammunition.

Remington Rolling Block Sporting Rifle

Fitted with a "Long Malcolm" scope it is called the "Rolling Block Rifle" ingame. The player picks it up during a job for the Mexican military and is the first sniper rifle the player gets. It's single shot and uses Sniper Rifle Ammunition.

Evans Repeating Rifle

Classified as a rare weapon according to Rockstar's website. It is called the "Evan's Reapeater" ingame. It is first available for purchase at the gunsmith in Blackwater and holds 22 shots rather than the real life 34 (but that is understandable). It has practically the same power as the Winchester and Henry but with just double the capacity and a somewhat faster reload speed. It uses Repeater Ammunition.

Carcano Rifle

Called the "Carcano Rifle" in-game. It is first available for purchase from the gunsmith in Blackwater. It is basically a combination of the Rolling Block Rifle and Bolt Action Rifle. It holds five shots and uses Sniper Rifle Ammunition.

Sharps 1874 Long Range

Called the 'Buffalo Rifle' in-game. It is the most powerful rifle in the game (hence the name) and can be purchased after getting Rank 5 in the Master Hunter challenges. The weapon reloads pretty fast (like John Quigley fast) and only fires one shot at a time. When used from cover there is an annoying glitch where John will reload while exposed to gunfire rather than loading another shot while in cover. It uses Rifle Ammunition.

Unknown Revolver

I noticed a nickel finished revolver on one screencap, that could be the Schofield but looks somewhat different: [1] Any ideas?

It could be the Colt New Service swing out revolver with a nickel finish

That's just the way the enemy guns look, makes it easier to spot when you go to pick up ammunition. They make the Winchesters look like '66 "Yellow Boys" because of that effect. -Cole Thorton

Yeah, Cole is right. It looks like it has a nickel finish, but all enemy guns look that way. Hell, the SAA looks chromed half the time. Acora 01:10, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
