FB MSBS Grot
The MSBS Grot (Modułowy System Broni Strzeleckiej, "Module-based Firearm System"; rendered in official Polish sources as "MSBS GROT") is a Polish next-generation modular rifle system developed by Fabryka Broni "Łucznik" - Radom as a replacement for wz. 96 Beryl rifles in Polish service. Consisting of a common upper receiver and handguard, the rifle can be configured with different lowers as either a traditional layout or bullpup layout. Modular parts are planned to allow both configurations to be built up as standard rifle, squad support weapon, compact carbine or marksman rifle. 53,000 examples are currently ordered by the Polish military.
During initial development from 2007 to 2010, the rifle is only known under its developmental designation, MSBS-5.56, suffixed with K, B, or R for conventional, bullpup, and "representative" (inert drill version) versions respectively. In 2010, the Polish magazine Strzal, in collaboration with FB Łucznik Radom, launched a contest for an individual name to the MSBS rifle, with the winning name being Radon; "Radon" was ocassionally used by non-official sources from 2010 to 2017.
In 2017, the MSBS rifle was formally adopted by the Polish military, and was given the official individual name of Grot ("arrowhead", "spearhead"), named after the pseudonym of Polish general Stefan Rowecki. The Polish Ministry of Defense also created a new formal naming scheme for the Grot rifles, in the following formula:
- Grot - official name of the rifle, followed by a space
- C, B, R - conventional, bullpup, or "representative"
- 10, 16, 20 - barrel length in inches
- G, M, PS - grenadier, machine gun or DMR. This letter is skipped if the weapon is configured as an assault rifle.
- FB - standing for the manufacturer's name
- -Mx - x corresponding to the series number.
For example, a Grot C16GFB-M1 would be a standard layout series 1 rifle with a 16-inch barrel and a grenade launcher.
A grenade launcher module, the GP, is also part of the system, with a standalone version called the GS.
A 7.62mm variant has also entered the prototype phase.
The FB MSBS Grot and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
