The General's Daughter is the 1999 feature film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Nelson DeMille. William Goldman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ,Marathon Man , All the President's Men , Misery )wrote the adaptation. The film stars John Travolta as a Chief Warrant Officer / CID Agent with the United States Army's Criminal Investigation Division Command (USACIDC) who is assigned to a murder case that involves the daughter of a highly respected US Army General. The film was directed by Simon West , and the cast includes Madeleine Stowe , Timothy Hutton , James Woods , and James Cromwell .
