Atomic Heart is a single-player first-person shooter with roleplaying mechanics, developed by Mundfish Studios and published by Focus Entertainment and VK Play. The game is set in an alternate 1955 Soviet Union, where, in 1936, a scientist named Dmitry Sechenov developed a liquidized programmable module called the Polymer that turned the Soviet Union into a world superpower. Players take control of Agent P-3 or Major Sergey Alekseyevich Nechayev, who is tasked with assisting Sechenov with the launch of Kollektiv 2.0. However, things go south as a rogue agent sabotages the launch and turns all robots against their human masters. The Major, alongside his AI Glove companion CHARLES and other characters, must stop the haywire robots and figure out the large threat that looms over the Soviet Utopia.
During the development of Atomic Heart, developers noted that they took direct inspiration from the Bioshock series, as the Major's glove grants powers such as telekinesis, gel freezing, and electricity to stun the enemies that can also be found in the Bioshock series as Plasmids or Vigors. Like Bioshock, the arsenal available to the player is limited, with a focus on melee weapons. All upgrades are either craftable or can be purchased at NORA, a vending machine.
Important Note: Following the long development timeline of this game, many guns like the PTRS-41 and others were either scrapped or left on the cutting floor.
The following weapons appear in the video game Atomic Heart:
Handguns
Makarov PM
The Makarov PM or just PM is the only secondary available to the player throughout the game. It's the second gun that the player will acquire right after the shotgun, and it is overall a versatile weapon with cheap ammunition.
Shotguns
KS-23
The iconic KS-23 shotgun is the first weapon that the player picks up after getting into Facility 3826. When first picked up, the KS-23 is missing its wooden stock, but with weapon upgrades, it will regain it back. The gun is anachronistic as the KS-23 was introduced in the 1980s.
Rifles
AKM
The AKM or Kalash is an all-around rifle, able to be customized to fit a variety of players' needs. It is anachronistic as the AKM was introduced in 1959; the original AK-47 would be more appropriate.
Other
The player has a wide range of melee weapons available to bring the fight to robots.
