Several German soldiers on the secret facility also carry them.

Lewis Gun A Lewis gun is used by Jim Ferguson back in 1917 on Biggles' two-seat photo-recon aircraft (actually a modified Belgian Stampe SV.4 rather than anything that would have flown with the Royal Flying Corps in 1917). A Lewis gun is also seen in the trenches on the Western Front.
The aircraft-mounted weapon is in fact the ground service model with standard shoulder stock, rather than the 'spade grip' and barrel shroud.
