Ransom is a 1996 thriller directed by Ron Howard and stars Mel Gibson as an airline tycoon who finds that his son is kidnapped and sets off a dramatic set of circumstances when he turns the tables on the kidnappers. Ransom is actually a loose remake of a 1956 Glenn Ford film of the same name. The film's cast includes Rene Russo, Gary Sinise, Lili Taylor, and Delroy Lindo.

NYPD Detective Jimmy Shaker (Gary Sinise) carries a 2nd Generation Glock 19 as his sidearm throughout the film. Uniformed NYPD officers also are seen carrying Glocks.
Detective Jimmy Shaker carries a Beretta 85BB as a backup gun, but only has it when going to Tom Mullen's house. At the end of the film, Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson) is seen brandishing it.
FBI Special Agent Lonnie Hawkins (Delroy Lindo) carries a Smith & Wesson 5946 as his sidearm in this film. This weapon is also carried by many of the uniformed NYPD officers in the film. This weapon is a correct sidearm choice for the NYPD, though not the FBI.
A uniformed NYPD officer is seen wielding a Smith & Wesson Model 19. NYPD officers employed prior to the transition of semi-automatic handguns in 1993 were allowed to continue to carry their revolvers if they so desired (until 2018 when the dinosaur officers were ordered to switch to the semi-auto pistol), however the Model 19 was not one of the approved revolvers for use as an NYPD sidearm.
FBI HRT members and NYPD ESU officers are seen armed with Heckler & Koch MP5A3s. They have mounted scopes, and some appear to be fitted with Surefire weaponlight forearms.
