F.E.A.R.
|
F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) is a horror-themed first-person shooter developed by Monolith and published by Vivendi/Sierra in 2005. The player assumes the role of the Point Man, a member of the F.E.A.R. team who possesses superhuman reflexes. The story revolves around Paxton Fettel, who has taken control of a battalion of clone super-soldiers called "Replica" soldiers. The members of F.E.A.R., in conjunction with 1st SFOD-D (Delta Force) must try to stop Fettel before it is too late.
The following weapons are featured in the video game F.E.A.R. and its expansions:
Handguns
Heckler & Koch USP
The Heckler & Koch USP appears as the "Rakow AT-14", and can be dual wielded. While it is stated in pre-release media as being chambered in .40 S&W, it is actually modelled after the .45 ACP version. It is incorrectly depicted as having a magazine capacity of 18 rounds instead of 13 like the real USP40 or 12 for the .45 version; only the 9mm "Jet-funnel" compatible magazines can hold 18 rounds. Another oddity is that it's modeled with a tall target front sight and the standard height rear sight. Even more strangely, when wielding two, the player appears to release the magazines by pressing down on the slide releases or safeties, suggesting Monolith thought these were magazine releases.
"SM15 Machine Pistol"
The "SM15 Machine Pistol" is the primary handgun (or machine pistol) for the Xbox 360 version of the game, modeled after a stockless AR-15 variant. The SM15's animations are identical to the USP in the original release, though F.E.A.R. Files gives the single SM15 the same animations as the RPL below, which due to odd placement of the model in the player character's hands mean that aiming the weapon causes the actual point of aim to be blocked off by part of the barrel.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
A rather deformed Heckler & Koch MP5A3 is featured in-game as the "Sumak RPL". In-game it features an unusable mounted holographic sight and a dedicated forend weaponlight. In early stages of the game, the Sumak RPL was fitted with a usable scope rather than the holographic sight.
Rifles
Heckler & Koch SL8
The "Rakow G2A2" is a heavily modified Heckler & Koch SL8 and is featured the standard assault rifle. The Rakow G2A2 fires on full auto and is loaded with a (rather tiny) Beta-C magazine, but holds only 45 rounds instead of 100 rounds like the real Beta-C.
IMI Tavor TAR-21
The IMI Tavor TAR-21 is another assault rifle in-game, and is known as the "Bashka ASP". The weapon fires only in 3-round bursts, utilizing a 3x scope modeled after the JGBG M7 scope, and is identified in outside material as firing 7.62x51mm NATO, a round for which no TAR-21 variant would exist until 2018. In Perseus Mandate, the ASP is the primary firearm of the FEAR team's Delta Force allies, likely to give them a better chance against more powerful Replica enemies.
"Vector Engineering Systems V7 Advanced Rifle"
The Vector Engineering Systems V7 Advanced Rifle was introduced with the expansion pack Perseus Mandate, taking over for the Rakow G2A2 as the basic fully-automatic rifle, also depict as standard issue rifle for the Nightcrawler Mercenary Army. The weapon takes some influence from the Heckler & Koch G36C (mainly in the top half of the foregrip, the upper receiver, and the carrying rail), utilizing a magnifying night-vision scope, and bears a magazine resembling the 20-round version of the AR-15's STANAG magazine, albeit flattened on the bottom. Like the Watson Autoshotgun, the V7 is never used by the Point Man.
Shotguns
Franchi SPAS-12
The Franchi SPAS-12 is the standard shotgun in the game, and is referred to as the "Vollmer VK-12". The weapon is loaded with 12 shells instead of 8 shells like the real SPAS-12. Fans of the gibbing system will find this gun to their liking, as close-range shots are almost guaranteed to mangle an enemy.
"Watson Autoshotgun"
The Watson Autoshotgun is introduced in the PS3 version of F.E.A.R., as well as the Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R. Files, and modeled after a heavily modified Armsel Striker variant, featuring a removable drum substituting the integrated one, an AR-15-style telescoping stock, and a large laser sight. It is also one of only two weapons here never used by the Point Man (Perseus Mandate and the PS3 bonus mission are not from the Point Man's perspective, and the instant action maps are, technically, non-canon).
Mounted Weapons
Dillon Aero M134 Minigun
Some of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters used by the 1st SFOD-D are seen armed with Dillon Aero M134 Miniguns. It should be note that the only time the Miniguns were seen in action was during the E3 2004 demo mission, used by Lieutenant Spencer "Spen" Jankowski and a SFOD-D operator. In the expansions it is mostly replaced by the fictional man-portable TG-2A.
Yakushev-Borzov Yak-B
Replica Mil Mi-24 Hind-Ds can be seen with mounted Yakushev-Borzov Yak-Bs.
