POSSIBLY one more gun appeared in this TV-series

Maybe, I'm wrong, but, when I had watch this TV-series (more than twenty years ago), I remember some kind of long gun, which was used by the murderers of colonel Protheroe in "The Murder at the Vicarage" to create the gunshot sound and trick the police investigations about murder time.
