Percussion Shotgun
The Percussion Shotgun was a "transitional stage" from earlier smoothbore flintlock/caplock guns (such as Blunderbuss and Flintlock Fowler) and modern breech-loading shotguns. The Percussion Shotgun obsolete to 1870's with the appearance of breech-loading shotguns, but continued to be used by some hunters in different countries until about the middle of the 20th century.
The Percussion Shotgun looks similar to breech-loading shotguns with exposed hammers, but can be identified by the characteristic ramrod fixed under the barrel(s), by which accomplished the loading.
