Lewis gun A Lewis gun is used by Jim Ferguson back in 1917 on Biggles' two-seat photo-recon aircraft (actually a modified Belgian Stampe SV.4 rather than anything that would have flown with the Royal Flying Corps in 1917). A Lewis gun is also seen in the trenches on the Western Front.
The aircraft mounted weapon is in fact the ground service model with standard shoulder stock, rather than the 'spade grip' and barrel shroud.
