The following weapons were used in Season 1 of the television series MacGyver:
Pistols
Colt Mk IV Series 70
Colt Mk IV Series 70 appears to be the dominant M1911 variant appearing in the season. Has multiple appearances.
- "The Golden Triangle" (S1E02). In the opening gambit, a goon in a junkyard has a M1911A1 with a supressor. The goon's M1911 gets stuck on a magnet when MacGyver uses one to pick up a attache case the goon was guarding. The goon recovers it and continues to chase MacGyver. Later, when the real episode starts in Burma, it is used by the villianous Truang (Benjamin Lum), Gen. Narai's right hand man. It's mostly seen in his holster, but he draws it out when MacGyver starts causing commotion in the camp. He loses it when MacGyver rams a truck to a shed he is hiding in. When Truang's envoy returns to the village, he has aquired a new one. When MacGyver stops the envoy to taunt them, Truang pulls his M1911 and shoots at MacGyver. The M1911 Truang fires a real one, as it ejects casings and gunsmoke. Truang has the Colt Mk IV out for rest of the guerilla combat scene, until he is disarmed by Ming's (James Saito) bamboo pole kung fu.

-
S1E02 - Truang fires the M1911, gunsmoke and ejecting casing (yellow)
Other M1911
Despite Colt Mk IV Series 70 being the dominant M1911 variant of the seasons, occasionally other variants pop up. The M1911A1
- "The Gauntlet" (S1E04) - Enemy officer catches up MacGyver trying to make an escape and fires a warning shot towards him.
-
"The Gauntlet" (S1E04) - An enemy officer uses the M1911A1.
-
"Last Stand" (S1E07) - Terry Andrews (Michael McGuire) uses the M1911A1.
Star Model BM
Appears in "Golden Triangle" (S1E02). A nickel, pearl-grip Star Model BM is the sidearm of General Narai (George Cheung). It's seen holstered in his earlier scenes. When MacGyver forces his copter to land, he draws this pistol. However, once he gets out of the helicopter, he is immediately disarmed by MacGyver's hi-keeba move, forcing the two go hand-to-hand. After Gen. Narai dies, MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) picks the general's gun up.
Heckler & Koch P9S
The Heckler & Koch P9S has a notable number of appearances. In the early seasons (that is 1-3), it frequently appears as the gun of choice of most villians and their underlings. It is substituted by the Taurus PT92 and/or Beretta 92F during seasons 4-7, when the production moved to Canada.
- "Last Stand" (S1E07) - Used by a goon named Elias (Anthony Pena)
- "To Be A Man" (S1E17) -
Revolvers
Colt Detective Special
- "Pilot" (S1E01) - once MacGyver finally reaches Dr. Carl Steubens (Paul Stewart) and Dr. Sidney Marlowe (Olaf Pooley), the former reaches out to a drawer and pulls out a nickel Colt Detective Special. He keeps MacGyver and Dr. Marlowe at bay while they have conversation about Dr. Steubens' motives. Rashly acting Barbara Spencer (Darlanne Fluegel) rushes at Steubens, trying to grab the gun, and gets shot. Startled Steubens drops his guard and next MacGyver rushes in and succeeds in disarming him.
Smith & Wesson Model 64
Appears in "The Golden Triangle" (S1E02). Smith & Wesson Model 64 is used by two goons in opening gambit that takes place in the junkyard. When MacGyver starts causing a ruckus, the goons draw their weapons. Both of their S&W Model 64(s) have a suppressor attached.
Smith & Wesson Model 28
In "Flame's End" (S1E13), MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) takes the frame of a Smith & Wesson Model 28 to remove a bolt from a leaking pipe.
Rifles and Carbines
Valmet M71S
In "Pilot" (S1E01), Central Asian soldiers as well as MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) are seen using the Valmet M71S, standing in for AKM. All of these rifles appear to have 30-round .223 pre-ban metal magazines. Based on the shape of the stock, these are plastic handguard/resin-stock variants.
Norinco Type 56
Norinco Type 56 has multiple appearances in the series. There are common Type 56 and some with AKM-style slant cut muzzle break. This rifle appears when a person within a show needs to fire a live AK-type rifle on screen, as there is muzzle flash and ejecting casings coming from this rifle.
- "Pilot" (S1E01) - When MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) goes to seek a missile that's hidden in a tent, a noticeable continuity error occurs, as the Valmet M71 he carried in previous scene has changed to a AKM. He later uses the AKM as part of a MacGyver'ed distraction to allow MacGyver to get the captured fighter pilot escape from a cage.
Most peculiarly, MacGyver - who is later established as a very anti-gun person - opens fire towards chasing soldiers to fend them off. The reason for the uncharacteristically casual way he handles firearms in the pilot episode is exactly because this is the pilot episode. So details like MacGyver's backstory and aversion of firearms were merely in flux, depending on whatever the show would get picked up by a tv network or not. He later gives the AKM to prisoner while he starts to work on the escape plan. - "Golden Triangle" (S1E02) - Appears in hands of one the villagers when they prepare for Gen. Narai's counterattack. You can see full-scooped hood on it. Living firing variants are seen in a trap the villagers rig. Instead of horribly mauling the Burmese soldiers, it just blows the tires of all their jeeps.
- "Gauntlet" (S1E04) - Wielded by Arabic soldiers
-
S1E01 - MacGyver strolling alongside a tent. Continuity gaffe here, as in previous scene, he carried a Valmet M71 and not a AKM
-
S1E01 - The cursed image of MacGyver willfully firing an AKM towards soldiers chasing him. This being the pilot episode, MacGyver's aversion of firearms was not yet established. Yellow circle to point a ejecting casing.
-
"Pilot" (S1E01) - the downed US pilot uses the AKM rifle as MacGyver devises their escape.
-
S1E02 - Ming (James Saito) and villagers handle AKs
-
S1E02 - Villagers handle AKs, the man in the rear has a Type 56 with a slant-cut muzzle break.
-
S1E02 - MacGyver's "non-lethal AK trap"
-
S1E02 - MacGyver's "non-lethal AK trap" going off.
-
An enemy soldier wields the rifle in "The Gauntlet" (S1E04). Notice that it has Type 56 hooded sight but also a slant cut muzzle break
AK-47
AK-47(s) and/or it's better clones - with traditional muzzle/without slant cut compensator and open hood sights - are featured in the series.
- "Pilot" (S1E01) - There is a moment in the opening gambit when MacGyver starts wrestling away a AK from a enemy soldier, that has a stubby muzzle instead of the slanted one MacGyver has later.
- "Golden Triangle" (S1E02) - Burmese Soldiers under General Nakai have AK-47(s) with open hood sights. It's later seen in hands of the villagers after they prepare against Gen. Narai's retribution, though MacGyver proposes non-lethal approach.
M16A1
The M16A1 rifle is used by several characters throughout the series.
M1 Carbine
In "Thief of Budapest" (S1E03), tribal members are seen using the M1 Carbine (sans magazine) when MacGyver attempts to recover a valuable horse.
Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I
A Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I is notably held by an Afghan tribal member in Season 1's "To Be A Man" (S1E17).
Sub-Machine Guns
Heckler & Koch HK94A3 (chopped and converted)
In "Deathlock" (S1E12), Quayle uses remotely operated Heckler & Koch HK94A3 submachine guns set up in his garden to trap MacGyver. These HK94A3's have the barrel chopped and converted to look like an MP5A3.
Heckler & Koch HK94
An unmodified Heckler & Koch HK94 also is used remotely in "Deathlock" (S1E12).
Ingram MAC-10
A MAC-10 is used by Quayle (Christopher Neame) in "Deathlock" (S1E12).
Machine Guns and Rotary cannons
M60
An M60 is seen in the Central Asian encampment in the opening gambit of the pilot episode.
M61 20mm Vulcan Cannon
Appears in the Pilot (S1E01). MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) and Gatner (Michael Lerner) are flown to the Underground Research Facility with the Blue Thunder helicopter. The Blue Thunder helicopter has a M61 Vulcan mounted on it's nose.
Browning M1919
Browning M1919 - in many different variations - has multiple appearances.
- "Golden Triangle" (S1E02) - Two significant versions of Browning M1919 appear in this episode. General Narai's (George Cheung) men found two Browning M1919(s) - with flexible mounts and early slotted barrel shrouds - from a downed aircraft. These are presumably mock-up props, as the reciever lacks details. Narai's men install these to these the General's helicopter. At the episode's climax, General attacks the villagers with the machine gun armed helicopter. Actual A4 variant appears on the jeeps of the Burmese soldiers.
Other
RPG-7
The RPG-7 is seen being loaded and fired by Russian soldiers in Season 1's "To Be A Man".
M8 Flare Pistol (modified)
Appears in the "Pilot" (S1E01). MacGyver investigates a downed fighter jet and finds an M8 Flare Pistol. When Mac and the prisoner try to escape, MacGyver uses a rock to flatten the barrel in order to create a little rocket thruster for the escape.
