A Stranger Among Us is 1992 crime drama directed by Sidney Lumet. NYPD Detective Emily Eden (Melanie Griffith), after a temporary suspension due to a shooting, receives a challenging task from her supervisor. She has to find a owner of the diamond trade named Yaakov Klausman (Jake Weber), who lost himself from the Hasidic community. Already the first encounter with this community is a great surprise for Emily. She meets here with Rebe (Lee Richardson), their spiritual leader, and two his adopted children, Ariel (Eric Thal) and Leah (Mia Sara). During the inquest she found that along with Yaakov, some $720,000 worth in diamonds have disappeared. The young man was about to marry - his chosen is Mara (Tracy Pollan), who was adopted by Rebe a year ago when she lived as a prostitute on the street. At the same time, mafioso Tony Baldessari (James Gandolfini) and his brother come to the shop and offer "protection" for a considerable amount of money. Emily begins suspecting that they are involved with the murder of a young jeweler and that the murderer is hiding somewhere among the members of the community.
