A young Julian Hatcher (then a Captain in the U.S. Army) test firing the Marlin produced version of the M1895. Note the heavy finned barrel and the piston linkage underneath the barrel. Now you can see why it was nicknamed the "potato digger". Photo taken sometime during WWI.

Proper name

Isn't this gun technically called the "M1895 Colt-Browning Machine Gun"?

Not according to the books I have. I have a feeling the names are flexible. However I think we should hold off changing the name. --Jcordell 02:31, 28 January 2012 (CST)

Good enough for me. :-) Thanx! --Zackmann08 02:38, 28 January 2012 (CST)

Furthermore, isn't "automatic machine gun" a redundancy? Spartan198 (talk) 18:50, 1 June 2017 (EDT)
