City Hunter (2011)

City Hunter (Hangul: 시티헌터) is a 2011 South Korean Television drama (aka Siti Hyunteo) that premiered May 25th, 2011 on SBS, and ended on July 28th 2011. Asian television is unlike American television in that an entire series can be done within a year or split between years. City Hunter aired at 10:00pm on both Wednesday and Thursday nights and was based on the Japanese manga of the same name created by Tsukasa Hojo (which was previously adapted into a anime series and 1993 feature film that starred Jackie Chan).

Directed by Jun Hyuk, the series follows a man named Lee Yoon-sung also known as Buchai trying to enact revenge on those who betrayed his father. In 1983 in Burma, the South Korean President is visiting and when he arrives a bomb kills multiple high level South Korean officials. This incident sparks five individuals to create a counter-strike operation called "Operation Cleansweep" against the believed culprit North Korea. The plan is to send in a team to kill several high ranking North Korean officials in retaliation. Two presidential body guards who were witnesses to the bombing volunteer to take part in the mission. The two presidential body guards are Lee Jin-pyo and Park Moo-yul, who helped plan the attack with a 21 man team. As the mission is going on the five officials abort the plan, to avoid conflict with the United States and to receive nuclear support from them. The mission is a success but as the men go to board the submarine for extraction; South Korean Commandos open fire on them from a submarine, killing 20 soldiers. The only survivor is Lee Jin Pyo; who was saved by his best friend Park Moo-yul. Lee Jin-Pyo vows revenge and steals Park's only child Lee Yoon-Sung, and runs to the Golden Triangle. At the Golden Triangle he raises the child as his own and trains him extensively in combat. He eventually tells Lee Yoon-Sung his true intention of revenge and sends him to MIT to receive a doctorate. Seven Years later When Lee returns to Korea he joins the Blue House as an IT professional and begins work on revenge for his biological father Park Moo-yul and his step-father Lee Jin Pyo.

The following weapons were used in the television series City Hunter (2011):

Handguns

Beretta 92FS Brigadier

In Episode 1, Lee Jin-Pyo (Kim Sang-Jung) and Park Mu-Yeol (Park Sang-Min) are armed with the Beretta 92FS Brigadier during their time as Presidential Security Service bodyguards in Myanmar after an assassination attempt in 1983. Its presence in the 1980s is an anachronism as it was not made until the early 1990s. In Episode 3, Lee Yun-Seong (Lee Min-Ho) is armed with the 92FS Brigadier when he confronts the corrupt politician Lee Kyung Wan. However, this pistol does not fire live bullets as Lee had modified the sidearm offscreen to fire tranquilizer darts. Used by a PSS agent in Episode 7 before Min-Ho disarms him. Jin-Pyo uses this in Episode 5 after his assassination attempt had failed. Apparently it is the standard sidearm for all PSS agents. Strangely, in most scenes the Brigadier seems to lack the right slide-decocker/safety.

Beretta 92FS Inox

In Episode 1, Jin-Pyo uses the Beretta 92FS Inox as his main sidearm after conducting his self-exile from South Korea to Thailand over the failure of the black ops mission to North Korea.

Colt M1911A1

Used by a young Yun-Seong during target practice in Thailand. Also used by an adult Yun-Seong to save his surrogate mother from being executed by shooting fruits dangling near her. A possible 1911A1-like pistol was used during the ambush on Yun-Seong at the Jong Shik estate.

Revolvers

Colt Python

Smith & Wesson Model 36

A J-frame Smith & Wesson, possibly a Model 36, is used by Kim Na-Na and Yun Seong in the PSS shooting range. Yun Seong also uses it to teach the First Daughter, Da Hye, on how to fire a revolver. Note: It may be a fake revolver, with all the strange markings seen in the 2nd photo.

Na-Na firing the revolver at a PSS shooting range in the Blue House. It appears that the revolver has been used quite a lot since the frame appears to be quite dull. Note the long cylinder (suggesting it can hold .357 Magnum rounds) and the barrel that resembles one from a Model 15. Also note the cylinder can only hold 5 rounds, suggesting this is a J-Frame. Strange enough, there is an adjustable rear sight, rarely seen on any steel black J-Frame S&Ws.

Smith & Wesson Model 36 "Chief's Special"

Jin-Pyo uses this in Episode 4 under his police officer disguise after he covertly took the Model 36 from a holster of a police officer driving the bus. Kim Na-Na appears to be using the S&W Model 36 as her main PSS sidearm, which is a bit unusual in the modern era (2011) since most of her PSS colleagues uses Brigadier pistols. On the other hand, it may be due to her hands as they may not be able to handle the pistol when gripped. Both Yun-Seong and Na-Na handle the M36 in a dream sequence where they kill each other. On an embarrassing note, Na-Na's M36 was used by Seo-Yong Hak against his own PSS bodyguard after being cornered by the City Hunter and Young-Joo.

Smith & Wesson 586

Jin-Pyo uses one with black grips and a three inch barrel to intimidate Seo Yong-Hak after capturing him. He also uses it to intimidate Yun-Seong and Na Na before he left the underground parking lot. Later, Jin Pyo aims the revolver at Na Na before he lowered it.

Fake Revolver

Yun-Seong has a possibly fake revolver used against Jin Pyo in the last episode. It's most likely a revolver made with blanks since he held one close to himself.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

Gunmen working for Jin-Pyo in Thailand are armed with the H&K MP5A3. South Korean SWAT officers after responding to the Seoul Intercontinental Hotel shooting attempt are armed with H&K MP5A3. Also used by KNP SWAT teams to hunt down Seo Yong-Hak and the City Hunter.

M16A1

Myanmar soldiers in honor guard duty are armed most likely with the M16A1 in the 1st episode since it was set in the 1980s. This may be an error as the Myanmar Army were not armed with the M16A1 and instead, had G3 rifles as their main rifle. Used by Jin-Pyo's henchmen in the same episode in the late 20th century, which are most likely Vietnam War-based surplus. Also used by narco gunmen working under a local drug smuggler.

Seen in the first episode when a Underwater Demolitions Unit commando snipes the black ops soldiers in North Korean waters to hide any traces of South Korean military involvement in the Pyongyang raid. Jin-Pyo is also seen using the same rifle in Seoul when he attempts to assassinate an ex-ROK Army officer turned politician.
