Chisum is a 1970 Western directed by Andrew V. McLaglen starring John Wayne, Forrest Tucker and Ben Johnson. It is a loose dramatization of the 1878 Lincoln County War, which was also the setting for the 1988 western Young Guns. The film starred many familiar faces from John Wayne's filmography, including Forrest Tucker, John Agar and Richard Jaeckel from Sands of Iwo Jima, Bruce Cabot and Edward Faulkner from The Green Berets, and Ben Johnson and Hank Worden from the "John Ford Stock Company."
The following weapons were used in the film Chisum:
Colt Single Action Army
John Chisum (John Wayne) keeps a 4 3/4 inch Colt Single Action Army and uses it in the beginning of the film to kill Neemo (Lloyd Battista) the leader of the Mexican bandits who stole his horses. He wears it throughout the film and uses it in the final shootout as well. James Pepper (Ben Johnson) also carries one with a 7.5 inch barrel and uses it to shoot at the Mexican bandits. Billy the Kid (Geoffrey Deuel) also carries one which he uses constantly. He is first seen using it to kill several Mexican bandits, and uses it to knock out Pat Garrett (Glenn Corbett) in the middle of the film.
Winchester Model 1886
Chisum head wrangler Jeff (William Bryant) carries a Winchester Model 1886. As this film is set in 1878, this is an anachronism.
Winchester Model 1892
Various characters use the Winchester Model 1892 rifle, an anachronism since the film is set in 1878. After emptying his Colt at the bandits, Billy pulls out a Winchester and prepares to continue firing but he is stopped by Chisum. In the final shootout, several deputies wield Winchesters. Pat Garrett (Glenn Corbett) has one and uses it to capture Billy. Garrett also uses it in the climactic gunbattle.
Double Barreled Shotgun
Lawrence Murphy (Forrest Tucker) tries to shoot Chisum with a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun. James Pepper carries a Coach Gun.
