Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a 1968 musical fantasy adventure, directed by Ken Hughes. The story, based on a novel by James Bond creator Ian Fleming, focuses on the titular vehicle, an aged race car rescued from the scrapyard by eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke), named for the distinctive sound of its engine after being repaired. On a trip to the beach, Potts begins to explain that his marvelous car has come to the attention of the villainous Baron Bomburst (Gert Fröbe), despotic ruler of Vulgaria, who intends to have it for himself.

After Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is washed out to sea, a Vulgarian ship opens fire on the car with several of its weapons, including swivel cannons.
