1941 is the 1979 World War II comedy directed by Steven Spielberg that follows the chaos surrounding a possible Japanese invasion off the coast of Los Angeles in the days following Pearl Harbor. Loosely inspired by an actual event, the film features an all-star cast which includes John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Warren Oates, Ned Beatty, Tim Matheson, Slim Pickens, Toshirô Mifune, Christopher Lee, Treat Williams, and Jaws veterans Murray Hamilton and Lorraine Gary. The film garnered mixed reviews and while it did make money, it was not the blockbuster hoped for.
