The Chatellerault 24/29 Light Machine Gun was adopted 1922, started service in 1924 using 7.5x57mm ammunition but was changed into 7.5x54mm in 1929 to avoid accidents in case a German 8x57mm cartridge was loaded. This weapon uses the same operation as the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle but was considered superior by French troops. The Chatellerault 24/29 Light Machine Gun inspired the Czech ZB30 which became the British Bren gun.
