Created during the U.S. military's attempt to develop a magazine fed automatic shotgun (otherwise known as the Close Assault Weapon System CAWS). The Jackhammer was never produced in any real numbers but remains unique for its' ten shot "ammo cassettes" which were available in either factory sealed/pre-loaded or user loadable versions. Its' popularity is due, in large part, to the futuristic look of the weapon which makes it popular in the sci-fi field.
