Lust, Caution is Ang Lee's 2007 award-winning adaptation of Eileen Chang's 1979 novella of the same name. Set in Japanese occupied China and Hong Kong during the Second Sino-Japanese War, the film was controversial due to the extremely explicit sex scenes between its two leads, veteran Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai and newcomer Wei Tang. The film was rated NC-17 since Ang Lee refused to make any cuts for the US release, but acquiesced and made cuts for the mainland Chinese release since China did not have a comparable ratings system. The film cleaned up at the Taiwan film awards that year, winning awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best New Performer, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Makeup & Costume Design and Best Original Film Score.
The following weapons were used in the film Lust, Caution:
Handguns
Walther PPK
Auyang Ling Wen (Johnson Yuen), Kuang Yu Min (Leehom Wang) and Wong Chia Chi (Wei Tang) all handle Walther PPKs during the film.
Astra 600
The cell/theater troupe has an Astra 600 when they are in Hong Kong.
FN Model 1900
The cell/theater troupe has an FN Model 1900 when they are in Hong Kong.
FN Model 1910
Tsao (Kar Lok Chin) carries a FN Model 1910. Lai Shu Jin (Chih-ying Chu) picks it up later.
Mauser C96
Mr. Yee's collaborationist guards carry what appear to be Mauser C96 pistols. Although they are never seen that clearly, there is a good chance they are .45 caliber Shansi Type 17s.
Rifles
Type Zhongzheng Rifle
Both Nationalist and Collaborationist Chinese troops are armed with Type Zhongzheng Rifle rifles.
Arisaka Rifle
Japanese and Manchurian occupation troops are armed with Arisaka rifles. It's not possible to make out which variant they are.
Trivia
Da Dao
Literally, "big knife," the Da Dao was a two-handed saber issued to soldiers in the Chinese army. The Second Sino-Japanese War is most likely the last war to ever feature sword-on-sword combat.
