The Day of the Triffids (1981) is the second of three filmed versions of John Wyndham’s classic science fiction novel (The Day of the Triffids (1962) and The Day of the Triffids (2009)) and the most faithful adaptation of the original story. If you’re expecting a monster movie, you’ll be sorely disappointed, because Wyndham’s tale is a parable about the fragility of civilization and the collapse of morality and ethics once it falls. The BBC made-for-TV mini-series starred John Duttine, Emma Relph, and Maurice Colbourne. A comet blinds humanity, which falls prey to carnivorous, walking plants.
The following firearms were used in the television mini-series The Day of the Triffids (1981):
L1A1 rifle
In Episode 3, British soldiers carry what appears to be the British L1A1 SLR rifle.
CZ 75
In Episode 4, gangsters appear to wield a CZ 75 pistol.
Over and Under 12 Gauge Shotgun
In Episode 4, Bill Masen (John Duttine) carries an over-under 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
In Episode 5, Ben Masen wields a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
M1 Flamethrower
In Episode 6, Bill Masen toasts the Triffids with a M1 Flamethrower.
Daimler Armored Car Mark I
In Episode 6, self-appointed guardsmen operate a Daimler Armored Car Mark I.
Triffid Gun
In Episode 5, Ben Masen creates his own ‘’Triffid Gun,” which flings a razor-sharp projectile at the pernicious plants.
