The Big Sleep was filmed in 1944 and 1945 (it was released in 1946) with Humphrey Bogart playing private detective Phillip Marlowe who takes on a blackmail case. During his investigation he uncovers a trail of murderers, pornographers, nightclub rouges and the spoiled rich. This Raymond Chandler story about legendary detective Philip Marlowe is directed by Howard Hawks.
