Minigun
Wasn't there an M134 Minigun seen in this film? --Ben41 (talk) 02:10, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- Yes I recall that as well. --Jcordell (talk) 06:35, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- Yes, there's a Minigun, but I just haven't listed it yet. It's actually not a M134, as far as I can tell it appears to be a M61 Vulcan.--Phillb36 (talk) 08:05, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- By the way, thanks for adding the movie poster.--Phillb36 (talk) 16:13, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- It's highly unlikely that the gatling gun is a Vulcan, because from the trailer it looks like someone is actually operating the weapon from a vehicle. (I have not seen any film or series where the Vulcan was not mounted on a helicopter or aircraft).--Ben41 (talk) 02:39, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
- In the movie the weapon is mounted in a turret hidden inside a structure on top of the drug lab. I've compared the weapon in the movie to pictures of the M134 and the M61, and it looks too big to be an M134. Too me it more closely resembles the M61, and looks exactly like the cannon mounted on the "Blue Thunder" helicopter.--Phillb36 (talk) 08:02, 16 October 2012 (EDT)

- Not a problem. I try to help out where I can. Adding the movie poster to pages is just something I like to do. People don't seem to be real sensitive about it either. Glad you made this page. I actually saw this movie at the theater when it was released. I saw it again a few weeks ago. Twenty-six years later!God I'm old.--Jcordell (talk) 10:19, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
- Well, I can remember when this movie was released, so I guess I'm old too. Although really far-fetched and cheesy in places, I find it very entertaining. I always liked the scene where Cream's thugs pull out the wide variety of submachine guns, including the Star Z70. Outside of Miami Vice and this movie, what other shows or films from the 80's featured a Z70? I'm going to say none...at least none I saw or can remember. It wasn't too common to see Beretta M12s or Walther MPKs at that time, either. Of course there is the scene where the limo gets trashed by the gatling gun, I always loved that.--Phillb36 (talk) 23:15, 17 October 2012 (EDT)
- Miami Vice was something else for a gun-crazy teenager in Eastern Idaho in the mid-eighties. After all it was pre-Internet and the amount of printed info regarding firearms was more limited. While it was easy to find information about the 1911A1, Smith & Wesson revolvers, Colt revolvers, Ruger Blackhawks, American hunting rifles and shotguns a select number of foreign firearms (Walther, FN High-Power, Beretta, H&K, Lugers, Star, Astra Llama) and some military grade firearms (when congress changed the laws regarding importation of military surplus in 1986 things really began to take off, but that was still a couple years away when the show started in 1984) it was much harder to find info about the more "exotic" models such as the Beretta smg, Star 70 and so on. Miami Vice actually showed those models being used. I have some old issues of Guns & Ammo, Gun World, and so on in which there are articles about those models and the writers mention that they appear on a frequent basis in Miami Vice.Even Soldier of Fortune magazine which was one of the few magazines that did have articles about those models would mention the show now and again. Hell I have an issue from the summer of 1986 in which they did an article about the firearms of Miami Vice! I think alot of the younger members here might not realize how influential that show was. Times change. --Jcordell (talk) 10:37, 18 October 2012 (EDT)

Rotary Cannon Screenshots
Here's some shots of the cannon from the movie. It doesn't look like an M134 and to my eyes looks too big to be that weapon. In my opinion it most closely resembles the "Blue Thunder" cannon which is listed on this site as an M61 Vulcan. I took some photos from the "Blue Thunder" page for comparison. So what's the consensus? What is this weapon?-Phillb36 (talk) 17:46, 16 October 2012 (EDT)--
- I doubt the Blue Thunder cannon is real. It seems unlikely they'd mount a real M61 on a light helicopter like that. Even a dedicated attack helicopter like a HueyCobra only mounts a three barreled version. If this is the same gun from Blue Thunder, this might be a mockup as well. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:59, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
- I was thinking along the same lines, to the extent that this weapon might even be the exact same prop from "Blue Thunder", recycled for this movie.--Phillb36 (talk) 18:09, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
