Hennessy is a 1975 British thriller directed by Don Sharp and starring Rod Steiger, Trevor Howard, Lee Remick, Richard Johnson, Peter Egan, Stanley Lebor, and with a brief appearance by a young Patrick Stewart. In the film Niall Hennessy (Steiger), a World War II hero and now demolitions expert, has rejected the violence of the IRA. But when Niall's family is killed by stray rounds during a riot, he sets out to bomb the British Parliament.

The following guns were used in the film Hennessy:

Handguns

Smith & Wesson 36

The S&W 36 makes a brief appearance when IRA gunmen meet Niall when he arrives in London.

Colt revolvers

Other than the S&W 36, the majority of revolvers carried by both IRA members and the Police appear to be Colt models, both short and long barrel, but many are difficult to identify at the angles seen.

Submachine Guns

Sterling

The radioman in the initial riot scene carries a Sterling sub-gun, which plays an integral role in the plot. The film however shows an improbably long burst of fire from the Sterling, 12 seconds with only one brief pause in the string. In actuality a Sterling firing at 550rpm would burn 9 rounds per second, exhausting the standard 34-round magazine in about four seconds.

Rifles

L1A1 SLR

The majority of British troops in the the patrols in the opening credits, and in the initial riot scene carry the SLR. Members of the royal parade at the end of the film also carry the service rifle. The rifles are the original versions, featuring wooden furniture and cylindrical wood carry handles.

M2 Carbine

The IRA members in the execution squad in the flashback scenes to Belfast appear to be carrying M2 Carbines; though in the dark it is not easy to see the features distinguishing the M1 and M2, by sound and flash they appear to be firing on full-auto, and Tobin's carbine clearly has an extended magazine.

AR-15

Both IRA snipers shown in the film appear to be carrying the same scoped AR-15, possibly a Colt AR-15 Sporter-1. Unusually, the AR shown in the riot scene appears to be a takedown model.

Machine Guns

Browning M1919

The Ferret armored cars on patrol in Belfast during the opening credits have machine guns in the turrets, which appear to be the Browning M1919 based on the barrel shroud and standard Ferret armament (and not the later GPMG).
