After several strange incidents Nick talks to Phil Church who talks about his dreams of the Colonels death. When the Colonel is killed in his room the everyone in the house becomes a suspect to the police including Nick Charles. After the local police interrogate everyone they issue a country wide bulletin for the arrest of Phil Church. Nick and Nora head back to New York City to rest but the investigation continues in New York. With the involvement of a racketeer named "Diamond Back" Vogel the stakes are raised and another murder is committed.
