Mulholland Falls is a 1996 film starring Nick Nolte as the head of an elite squad of LAPD detectives in 1953 investigating the murder of a young woman (Jennifer Connelly) that has been linked to a general in the Atomic Energy Commission (John Malkovich).

U.S. Army soldiers and MPs, including Col. Nathan Fitzgerald (Treat Williams) and the Captain (Kyle Chandler), carry M1911A1 pistols holstered. After they are taken to the Army base, Det. Lt. Max Hoover (Nick Nolte) and Det. Elleroy Coolidge (Chazz Palminteri) knock out a couple MPs and take their 1911A1s, using them to infiltrate Gen. Timms' home.
