Newsmakers (Russian Title:Goryachie Novosti/Горячие новости) is a 2009 Russian remake of the 2004 Hong Kong film Breaking News. Directed by Anders Banke, the film is about a group of criminals who are holed up in a Moscow apartment building after a shootout with the police, and the efforts of law enforcement to turn the situation to their advantage after they were humiliated on television by the criminals.
The following weapons are seen in the film Newsmakers (Goryachie Novosti):
Pistols
Beretta 92FS
A suppressed Beretta 92FS is used by Valery (Artyom Semakin), one of a pair of assassins who are trapped in the apartment building that the criminals hide in.
Beretta 92FS Inox
A Beretta 92FS Inox is used by Kley (Maxim Konvalov), one of the criminals, to shoot a traffic police officer and later when the criminals take over the apartment of Yura (Grigory Baranov) and hold his family hostage.
Glock 19
A Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) Spetznaz soldier is briefly shown with a Glock 19 pistol when some of the criminals make an escape attempt.
Makarov PM
The Makarov PM is the standard sidearm for all Moscow Militsiya officers, including detective Smirnov (Andrey Merzlikin) and his team. Makarov PMs are also used by some MVD soldiers when they raid the apartment building, and is briefly used by detective Katya Verbitskaya (Maria Mashkova) when she searches for Herman (Yevgeni Tsyganov), the criminal ringleader.
Stechkin APS
A Stechkin APS is used by the Killer (Sergei Garmash), an assassin who along with his partner Valery, become trapped with the criminal gang in the apartment building. The Killer uses the Stechkin to shoot at Smirnov as he and Herman attempt to escape from the building.
Walther P99
Herman (Yevgeni Tsyganov) uses a Walther P99 throughout the film.
Browning BDA
Orda (Aleksei Frandetti) uses a Browning BDA to shoot at the police officers during the opening gunfight, and when Smirnov's team surprises him outside of the criminal gang's hideout.
Shotguns
Benelli M3 Super 90
Kon (Sergei Vesnin) and Kley both use a Benelli M3 Super 90 with a top-folding stock during the opening shootout.
Sawed-Off Double-Barreled Shotgun
A 12 gauge sawed off shotgun, likely a Russian-made Baikal, is seized from a crackhead by Smirnov and used by him as he attempts to track down Herman and the killer.
Submachine Guns
Kedr PP-91
Kedr PP-91 submachine guns with 30 round magazines are used by police officers throughout the movie, first by SWAT officers during the opening shootout, and later by MVD Spetznaz soldiers at the apartment building. The criminals also utilize a captured PP-91 during their attempt to escape the police cordon.
Heckler & Koch MP7
A Heckler & Koch MP7 fitted with a suppressor is seen carried by a SWAT officer accompanying a sniper.
Rifles
AKS-74U
The AKS-74U is used by Herman during the opening shootout. Some of the Spetznaz soldiers raiding the apartment building also use AKS-74Us.
AK-74M
Kolyan (Pavel Klimov) is briefly seen cleaning an AK-74M rifle at the beginning of the film.
AKS-74
The criminals and police both make frequent use of the AKS-74 rifle, most prominently during the opening shootout. Orda uses an AKS-74 fed from a PKM belt box. Such a combination does not exist in real life as the two weapons systems are incompatible calibers and feed systems.
AK-103
As MVD and OMON units surround the apartment building, a Spetznaz soldier can be seen aiming an AK-103 rifle, distinguished by its curved 7.62x39mm magazine, AK-74-style muzzle brake and black plastic furniture.
Accuracy International Arctic Warfare
Another Spetznaz sniper is seen taking up position with an Accuracy International Arctic Warfare rifle.
Other
F-1 hand grenade
F-1 hand grenades are used by the criminals in multiple occasions as booby traps.
CornerShot with Makarov attachment
As the MVD Spetznaz soldiers advance towards the criminals' apartment, one soldier can be seen using a CornerShot with a Makarov attachment.
RPG-26
Kon fires a single shot RPG-26 to distract the police when the criminals try to flee from the opening shootout.
