::Yeah, but if they were pulling the A1s in for a block upgrade at exactly the same time they were retiring the M73, they'd pull the M73s out and replace them. Army-Technology says current M60s have an M240 as their coax, so I'd guess only the pre-A3 versions would mount this. [[User:Evil Tim|Evil Tim]] 02:32, 9 November 2011 (CST)

Revision as of 23:20, 9 November 2011

Globalsecurity says these were phased out in favour of the M240 in 1977, M60A3 didn't even start development until 1978. Evil Tim 22:22, 8 November 2011 (CST)

M60A3s were just upgraded A1s though, not a new design. Most of the upgrades appear to be in the fire control systems. --Funkychinaman 22:43, 8 November 2011 (CST)
Yeah, but if they were pulling the A1s in for a block upgrade at exactly the same time they were retiring the M73, they'd pull the M73s out and replace them. You're right. [1] "Mounted in the commander's cupola is an M85 12.7 mm (0.50) machine gun with an elevation of +60° and a depression of -15°. Mounted coaxially to the left of the main armament is a 7.62 mm M73 machine gun, replaced by the 7.62 mm M240 weapon." [2] "(12) Coaxial machine gun replaced by 7.62 mm M240 weapon" --Funkychinaman 11:38, 9 November 2011 (CST)
The only thing I can remember about this weapon and the M85 is how universally bad they were. If I remember the articles I read there were constant functionality problems and maintenance on them were a bitch. --Charon68 17:20, 9 November 2011 (CST)
