Tour of Duty was an American military series that followed a platoon of US soldiers through their tour of duty in the Vietnam War. The series aired on CBS from 1987-1990 and was one of very first to portray the Vietnam War in a weekly drama. While the first two seasons followed the platoon in a regular Army unit where they carried standard American weapons, the third season had them join the Special Operations Group, where they went on missions carrying more non-descript weaponry.

Handguns
M1911A1
The M1911A1 is seen used by Lt. Myron Goldman (Stephen Caffrey) and Lt. John McKay (Dan Gauthier).
Smith & Wesson Model 10 Revolver
In Season 1's "Roadrunner", USAF CPT J.T Slaney (William Allen Young) carries a Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolver as his sidearm.
Rifles
M16 Variants
The M16 rifle was the main rifle of the U.S. Army soldiers in Vietnam and is seen carried by most of the platoon. In the series, various models of the M16 are seen.
Colt XM177 (Colt Sporter Carbine)
A Colt Sporter Carbine modified to resemble the XM177 rifle is mainly seen being used by SFC Clayton "Zeke" Anderson (Terence Knox). In Season 1, Anderson's Colt Carbine is seen loaded with a 30-round magazine (unusual for the time period of the series). For the remainder of the series, the Colt is loaded with the more accurate 20 round magazine.
M14
The M14 Rifle was seen twice, used by Sgt. Block (Michael Madsen) and Lt. John McKay (Dan Gauthier) as sniper rifles.
Norinco Type 56
The Norinco Type 56 is seen in the hands of the NVA and VC soldiers.
AKM
The AKM is also used by enemy forces as well as Lt. Goldman.
AKMS
In later episodes, Goldman carries an AKMS. In Season 3's "War is a Contact Sport", an NVA tank gunner atop a T-55 is seen using one that's fitted with a drum magazine.
SKS rifle
The SKS rifle is seen a couple of times by VC soldiers.
SVD Dragunov
The SVD Dragunov is seen twice used by NVA snipers.

The Smith & Wesson M76 is seen used by Pvt. Ruiz (Ramon Franco) on some SOG missions.
Carl Gustav M45
A Carl Gustav M/45 is used by Cpl. Danny Purcell (Tony Becker) on some SOG missions.
M3 / M3A1 "Grease Gun"
The M3 / M3A1 "Grease Gun" is seen used by Sgt. Marvin Johnson (Stan Foster) during the SOG missions.
M2 Carbine
The M2 Carbine was used by Sgt. Marcus Taylor (Miguel A. Nunez, Jr.) in some of the SOG missions.
Shotguns
Ithaca 37
The Ithaca 37 shotgun is seen in the hands of SFC Clayton "Zeke" Anderson (Terence Knox). Anderson uses an Ithaca with a "Stakeout" style grip. in Season 1 and a full-size one in Season 3. Sgt. Block (Michael Madsen) also is seen with a full size shotgun.
Machine Guns
M60
The M60 is the chief weapon carried by Pvt. Alberto Ruiz (Ramon Franco) in the series.
M60D
The "D" variant of the M60 is seen mounted on Huey helicopters as well as fired by enemy forces in the series.
Browning M2 HB
A Browning M2 .50 cal is seen mounted on a truck in the Pilot episode.
Valmet M78
NVA forces are sometimes seen firing the Valmet M78.
Soviet SGMB Goryunov
The Soviet SGMB Goryunov or Chinese Type 57 machine gun is also seen used by NVA forces in the series.
Other
M79 grenade launcher
The M79 grenade launcher is seen used by US forces throughout the series including SFC Anderson and Johnson.
M72 LAW
The M72 LAW is seen used by US troops throughout the series.
RPG-7
The RPG-7 is used throughout the series by VC and NVA forces.
