Cool. I forgot it looked a lot like WA2000, it's been a while since I've even had the game. If you don't mind, I'll copy and paste most of this stuff to the main page. - [[User:Mr. Wolf|Mr. Wolf]] 07:53, 25 May 2011 (CDT)

Predator Speargun

The only ballistic weapon used by Predators, this weapon fires long metal darts with forked heads (somewhat similar to the ammunition that certain underwater firearms in real life use). It possesses a scope of sorts that is never used, the Predators preferring to use the optical magnification systems in their masks instead. The Speargun is capable of firing single darts or a shotgun-like burst of 3 darts at once. The weapon's scope, muzzle, and pistol grip are capable of folding to be flush with the gun's main body for more compact stowage. The firing mechanism behind the gun's workings is never disclosed, and the question remains open as to whether it uses a compressed gas, EMAC, or chemical explosives to fire its ammunition (the last of which would by definition make it a firearm).

In the original version of the game, the Predator Speargun had a magazine capacity of 9 darts, but this was quickly patched to become a single ammo pool, so players could expend all their available ammunition (a maximum size of 27 darts) without pausing to reload.

Monolith Productions would later use their experience with this weapon to develop the Armacham 10mm HV Penetrator weapon seen in F.E.A.R.

The Predator player character admires his Speargun and its handiwork. Amazingly enough, the darts stuck in most targets can be recovered and reused with no ill-effects on the weapon.

A Predator Speargun confiscated by scientists at the Forward Observation Pods on LV-1201. This is the only way the weapon's pistol grip can be seen.

Bonus: Decapitating a Weyland-Yutani containment team member with a fired Speargun dart. In reality, while destroying someone's head in a messy manner is perfectly possible with the right gun and ammunition, clean decapitation is another matter entirely.

Discussion

Should this page even be here? It has no real firearms, there all fictional. --FirearmsNewbie 11:10, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I think so. Assuming it has the same guns as in the movies (can't tell as the page is incomplete) then at least the pulse rifle, flamethrower and smartgun (same as sentry gun) are all built on real weapons. Also, just at a glance the pistol seems to be based on a Mark 23. --commando552 18:29, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

The Aliens movie was included here on this wiki along with its fictional firearms, since they were made with parts of real firearms. I'm sure the mods wouldn't mind seeing digital representations of those same firearms from this game, and from what I can tell some of the weapons not from the movie are based off of real-life ones as well. --Mazryonh 18:32, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Aliens the film has obvious proof that the actual weapons were real blank-firing weapons visually modified for the production. The same cannot be said for the majority of the weapons seen in this videogame. Thus, it will be subject to deletion. --Ben41 18:45, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

So, we're butting up against another grey area, hmm? Fictional firearms in films are fine if they're made of real-life firearm parts, but digital representations of those same weapons aren't? I'm surprised that the mods haven't already struck down pages like the Metro 2033 Kalash 2012 then, even though it "could well be a real weapon" despite having no real-life props. I'd still like to make my case before MPM2008 though. I've already finished uploading images and text of the weapons in this game that have direct counterparts in Aliens, so let's see if the other mods think the page is worth keeping just for those. --Mazryonh 20:27, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
I think it has as much right to be here as articles for games like (for example) Crysis and F.E.A.R. Both of these use fictional guns that are based on real guns to varying degrees, and these games are warranted a page. However, it is my opinion that any gun not based on a real gun (like predator spear guns and the like) shouldn't be here. --commando552 22:19, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Seeing the page more complete and I've got to say, it looks like it could stay. It has the movie weapons in it, which should be allowed, as well as weapons that look like there based off of real guns. All the completely fictional weapons are off (predator weapons), so personally, i don't see a reason for deletion. --FirearmsNewbie 23:00, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Sniper rifle

If you look at the icon for the sniper rifle (or the thing itself on the ground) it's quite blatantly a dressed-up WA2000. Evil Tim 11:41, 20 May 2011 (CDT)

That's interesting, could you send a pic. - Mr. Wolf 16:27, 20 May 2011 (CDT)

Ok, horrible grainy picture taken with my cellphone camera because I don't have a scanner that works in Vista 64:

Weyland-Yutani WY-120, a fictional weapon based loosely on the WA2000 with a huge barrel extension.

The player model of the WY-120 shows the distinctive twin struts of a WA2000 above and below the barrel, with the lower one mounting the handguard. The weapon has a large digital scope that swings into position when used, and a curious cylinder-like structure in the middle of the gun which rotates when it is fired.
