Theatrical poster for Elite Squad 2 (2010).
Elite Squad 2 (Brazilian Title: Tropa de Elite 2) is a 2010 film directed by Jose Padilha and the sequel to 2007's Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite). Set in present-day Rio De Janeiro, Elite Squad 2 follows Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Nascimento (Wagner Moura) and Captain Andre Matias (Andre Ramiro) of the Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (Special Operations Battalion) or BOPE as they combat criminals and uncover a broader conspiracy between members of the Military Police and government officials.
The Taurus PT92 is used by Major Rocha (Sandro Rocha) and other Rio de Janeiro Military Police (PMERJ) officers, as well as by various criminals throughout the film.
Beirada (Seu Jorge), an imprisoned Comand Vermelho (Red Command) gang leader, uses a Taurus PT940 given to him by a corrupt prison guard to start a riot and execute rival gang members at the Bantu I penitentiary.
A member of Rocha's "militia" is shown checking a compact Glock while preparing for a mission. A Glock 25 is also used to threaten Clara (Taina Muller), a reporter who uncovers the militia's collusion with senior political figures.
Most BOPE officers are armed with the Imbel M964 A1 ParaFAL carbine, including Captain Andre Matias (Andre Ramiro). The ParaFAL is a updated version of the M964 featuring a shorter barrel and light-weight polymer parts instead of the traditional aluminum. Available as either a parts kit or as a completely new weapon, the ParaFAL is currently used by many Brazilian police and military units.
Some BOPE officers are also seen with Imbel MD-97 LC rifles with picatinny rail mounts on the receiver. The MD-97 LC is the semi-automatic law enforcement version of the MD-97.
Colonel Roberto Nascimento (Wagner Moura) uses a Imbel IA2 CQC carbine during the final shootout of the film. The IA2 is an updated version of the Imbel MD-97 with new polymer furniture.
Gang leader Felpa uses a Norinco Type 56-1 rifle when his territory is invaded by BOPE officers. Interestingly, the weapon has a folded "pig sticker" bayonet mounted beneath it.
The standard Norinco Type 56 is also seen in the hands of gang members and one of the militia members. Like the Type 56-1, it also has a folding bayonet, as well as the slant muzzlebrake from the AKM.
