Taurus built "The Judge" as a gun for both compactness and power. The gun holds five rounds of either .45 Long Colt rounds or 410 Gauge shotgun rounds. Both are the same dimension and fit the cylinder the same (similair to .38 Special to .357 Magnum). This allows the stopping power of a .45 LC to stop a charging animal or the scattering capability of a 410 round to kill a snake. In most cases in films, .45 LC blanks are used either way. While a 410 round is not very powerful, the idea of a shotgun revolver has made it popular in films, even though the 410 probably weaker than the .45 LC in reality. The lenghtened cylinders make it poorly accurate with 45 LC and the short, rifled barrel makes it shoot awful patterns only effective at a few yards. An overall terrible weapon from a distance - and ineffective at close range too, due to the .410s poor stopping power and low velocity from the short barrel.  Great for killing snakes and clay pigeons, but not much else.
