This game has a very in-depth ammunition system. The player can reload ammo, and there are many variants of each ammo type. For a list, see the Discussion page
The following weapons are seen in the video game Fallout: New Vegas:
Handguns
Browning Hi-Power
The Browning Hi-Power appears as "9mm Pistol". Can be modified with an extended magazine and a scope. A unique version called "Maria", decorated with a Virgin Mary furniture, is available.
Colt Single Action Army
The Colt Single Action Army Appears as ".357 Revolver". It is chambered in .357 Magnum (so it could be the almost identical externally Ruger Blackhawk). Can be modified with a longer barrel that increases the damage by +3 and a HD cylinder which increases its condition by +50%.
A unique version called "Lucky" can be found in the Bison Steve casino in a safe in Primm.
Smith & Wesson Model 29
The Smith & Wesson Model 29 returns from Fallout 2, now simply referred to as the ".44 Magnum Revolver". Can be modified with a heavy frame that increases its durability and a scope. A unique nickel-plated and engraved version can be found, called the 'Mysterious Magnum'.
N99 10mm Pistol
The look of the pistol is similar to the one in Fallout 3. A laser sight, silencer, and extended magazine can be added to the gun. A huge bug is in the game that makes the Weathered 10mm Pistol, unusable. When adding any weapon mods, the gun will be corrupt, it will still fire but a huge red box with an explanation mark (!) in it. PC users can get a hot-fix for this issue at the New Vegas Nexus, while console players will need to wait for a patch.
LAPD 2019 'Blaster'
The pistol from Blade Runner makes a return to the Fallout series. Called "That Gun" in-game, in reference to "That Gun from the Fallout 1 and 2", the .223 pistol. Like its predecessor, it chambers 5.56x45mm NATO.
Ruger 22/45
The Ruger 22/45 appears as the "Silenced .22 Pistol", The Silenced .22 is suppressed, and will not alert enemies (who have not been shot) of your presence. It will not dismember on hit, and does less damage to limbs. Also, it is one of thw two guns player can bring into casinos, the other being a Hi-Power if the player's sneak skill is high enough.
Assault Rifles
Colt Model 733
The Colt Model 733 appears as "Assault Carbine" with a 20 round magazine. It can be upgraded with a suppressor and the 30 round magazine.
Colt Model 933
There are 2 variants of this rifle in the game, but basically they both look like the Colt Model 933 with the SIRS rails on them and a PRS stock. They both have an ACOG scope. The unique variant is painted woodland. The standard variant is called the Marksman Rifle and the unique is called the All American. And like the Service Rifle in the game, both these rifles lack the charging handle on the rear and instead it is located on the moving bolt on the right side where the brass ejects. If playing the standard quest, without going off track, the first place that the player will come across is in the Nellis AFB, in the underground generator room. The All American is found only in the armoury at the bottom of the irradiated-ghoul infested Vault 34 located east of New Vegas.
AR-15
An AR-15 is seen being wielded by NCR soldiers, called "Service Rifle" in-game. It has a wooden stock similar to the AR-10 however it is patterned after the M-16A1 Vietnam era triangular hand guard. It is chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO and is semi-auto. The upper receiver has forward assist and a case deflector. Can be modified with a forged reciever that increases it's durability and upgraded springs that increase its fire rate.
Sub-Machine-guns
M3 "Grease Gun"
An M3 Grease Gun appears in-game. Apparently it has been converted to 9mm. Called the "9mm SMG" in-game. Can be modified with a SMG Drum that increases the capacity by +30% and a Light Bolt that increases the rate of fire.
American-180
A .22-caliber SMG with a pan magazine and integral suppressor, but the stock is removed. Can be upgraded with a larger drum magazine that increases capacity by 60 rounds.
Shotguns
Remington 870 Express
The Remington 870 appears as the Hunting Shotgun. It starts off with a capacity of 5 shots, but it is possible to upgrade the capacity to 8 with an upgrade. The shotgun can also be upgraded with a shotgun choke that decreases the spread of each shot.
Over-and-Under
A 20-Gauge double-barrel shotgun called the "Caravan Shotgun" appears in game; if you pre-ordered the 'Caravan Pack' version of New Vegas, you could get a 'Sturdy' Caravan Shotgun which is more resistant to wear-and-tear. The gun itself appears to be an 'over-and-under' style; visually, it bears resemblance to a Winchester Model 101, though the Model 101 is chambered for 12-Gauge shells, not 20.
Hawks Semi-Auto Shotgun
The Hawks Semi-Auto shotgun appears as the Riot Shotgun with a round drum magazine and wooden furniture.
Winchester 1887
It differs from the real life model and it's fed with 20-gauge shells. The animation for ejecting shells are poorly done that it appears to be coming from the gun itself and not really the bottom.
Single Barrel 20 Gauge Shotgun
Used by the Powder Gang and lower level enemies. Called "Single Shotgun" in game.
Rifles
PGM Ultima Ratio 'Hecate II'
The PGM Ultima Ratio 'Hecate II' appears in Fallout: New Vegas as the .50 caliber "Anti-Materiel Rifle". It is the only pistol to use the .50 caliber round in-game
Varmint Rifle
Bolt action rifle chambered in 5.56; holds 5 rounds. Can be upgraded with extended magazines that increase capacity by 3, a night vision scope and a supressor.
M1 Garand
M1 Garand appears in Fallout: New Vegas Called the Semi-Automatic Rifle, but it was taken out in the final product. However there is a special rifle variant called This Machine(as in Woody Gunthrie's 'This Machine Kills Fascists') that is still in the game.
Winchester 1886
The Winchester 1886 appears as the Cowboy Repeater, it takes 357. Magnum ammunition and it can take down light armoured enemies from a distance. There is a special variant, called the La Longue Carabine fitted with a scope, engraved stock and Octagon Barrel.
Marlin Model 336
The Marlin Model 336 appears in game as the "Trail Rifle", firing .44 Magnum. It can only be modified with a scope.
Hunting Rifle
The Hunting Rifle makes a come back in Fallout: New Vegas, but the rifle now chambers .308 sniper rifle rounds. Most likely based off the Winchester Model 70. Can be modified with a Custom Action that increases the rate of fire, an extended Magazine which increases capacity by 5 rounds and a long range scope.
Machine Guns
FN Minimi
What appears to be an FN Minimi with wooden M60 style hanguardsand wooden pistol grip. It seems it has some kind of magazine instead of an side-inserted belt. Can be modified with a Light MG expanded drum that increases capacity from 90 rounds to 200 rounds. Fires the standard 5.56 in the game.
Explosives
M79 Grenade Launcher
The M79 Grenade Launcher is Seen in a pre-order bonus picture. It is called the "Grenade Rifle", with a unique version called "Mercenary 40mm Grenade Rifle" available as a pre-order bonus. Regular version can be upgraded wih a longer barrel for longer range.
China Lake Launcher
A China Lake Grenade Launcher called the "Grenade Launcher" ingame. uses standard 40mm shells, can be bought at Gun runners and found on most boomers. uses 40mm shells.
