:None of these are genuine M1911A1s. In several of these screencaps (the last in particular), you can see that the bores of the pistols are too small to be .45 ACP. They are most likely Colt Series 70s in 9mm, a common 1911 substitute in movies. -[[User:MT2008|MT2008]]

M1911A1

The M1911A1 pistol appears several times towards the end of the film; first in the hands of Commander Bart Mancuso (Scott Glenn) and Sonar Technician 2nd Class Ronald "Jonsey" Jones (Courtney Vance). Cmdr. Mancuso later gives his M1911A1 to the C.O. of the Red October, Captain 1st Class Marko Ramius (Sean Connery) to defend himself with, and issues one to Dr. Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) as well, Ryan using it to kill GRU sleeper agent Igor Loginov's (Tomas Arana) attempt to sabotage Ramius' plans to defect to the United States with the Red October. It is interesting to note that although the M1911A1 Mancuso gives Ryan is in the classic leather holster Mancuso's is in the M12 Universal Military holster which was not available at the time the movie was set. Also, in the original Tom Clancy novel, Ryan uses a Browning Hi-Power.

None of these are genuine M1911A1s. In several of these screencaps (the last in particular), you can see that the bores of the pistols are too small to be .45 ACP. They are most likely Colt Series 70s in 9mm, a common 1911 substitute in movies. -MT2008
