Patriot Games is the 1992 thriller starring Harrison Ford as CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who in this film must thwart a IRA splinter terrorist who wants revenge for the death of his brother that Ryan unknowingly killed. Ford would reprise the Ryan role in the 1994 film Clear and Present Danger.
The following weapons were used in the film Patriot Games:
Handguns
Heckler & Koch P9S
During the attempted kidnapping of Lord Holmes, Sean Miller (Sean Bean) is seen using a Heckler & Koch P9S to shoot at the drivers of Holmes' car. Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) later takes this gun from Miller and uses it to stop the massacre, in the process killing Miller's brother.
Makarov PM
Annette (Polly Walker) uses what appears to be a suppressed Makarov PM to take out an IRA leader.
CZ 75
Kevin O'Donnell (Patrick Bergin) uses a Czech CZ 75 pistol when he breaks Sean Miller out of police custody. He gives it to Miller, who uses it to execute the surviving police before leaving.
Beretta 92FS
The Beretta 92FS appears several times in the movie. During the scene in Libya, one of the IRA terrorists is seen firing one, and then Annette (Polly Walker) comes over and tells him to spread his feet further while he shoots. Another is wielded by one of the DSS Agents who goes into the basement in the climax. Annette is seen using one when Dr. Ryan takes her Uzi. The Beretta 92FS (as the M9) is the standard pistol of the US Marine Corps. A Marine Guard shoots dead an IRA assassin in Annapolis with his M9. Promotional material for the film (including as the above poster) shows Dr. Ryan brandishing a Beretta 92FS, but he never uses one on screen.
Model 1934 or 1935 Beretta
Geoffrey Watkins (Hugh Fraser) uses a suppressed Model 1934 or 1935 Beretta to kill one of the DSS Guards at Dr. Ryan's home during his daughter's homecoming celebration, Ryan later takes the pistol and shoots Watkins in the leg with it to try and get him to talk, and then gives it to Lt. Commander Robby Jackson (Samuel L. Jackson), who uses it during the fight in Dr. Ryan's home. The pistol is a Model 1934 or 1935 Beretta (Italian Navy and other European military groups used them, cals .380ACP/9mm Corto and 7.65mm). The 'Cheetah' moniker is applied only to more recent commercial Beretta firearms, such as the 80-series (84,85,86, etc.).
Browning Hi-Power
The IRA assassin who is sent to kill Jack Ryan at the Naval Academy wields a Browning Hi-Power fitted with a suppressor. Another Browning Hi-Power (without a suppressor) is wielded by one of the IRA gunmen sent to kill Kevin O'Donnell in his home, and yet another can be seen in the hands of a terrorist training in Libya.
Smith & Wesson Model 36
Some of the British RUC Officers who make their raid on the IRA safehouse are armed with Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolvers.
Rifles & Carbines
L85A1 Rifle
In the beginning of the film, the British Army guards at Buckingham Palace can be seen with their L85A1 service rifles fitted with bayonets and protective vinyl coverings over the SUSAT scopes and handguards (customary for Royal guards). During the scene in Belfast, members of the Parachute Regiment can also be seen wielding L85A1s.
AKM/AKMS
The favorite weapon of the Provisional Irish Republican Army throughout the film are AKM and AKMS assault rifles. One of the terrorists is seen using an AKMS during the attempted kidnapping earlier in the film, and more AKMS rifles are used by the group that frees Sean Miller from captivity. In another scene, many Provos are seen firing AKM (fixed stock) rifles while training at a terrorist camp in Libya. Later, Dennis Cooley (Alex Norton) is killed with one of these weapons by Sean Miller after he is unable to fire it, demonstrating his incompetence.
Submachine Guns
Uzi
The PIRA terrorists also favor IMI Uzi submachine guns throughout the film. Sean Miller uses one to shoot at Jack Ryan's wife Cathy (Anne Archer) and daughter Sally (Thora Birch) during the attempted freeway killing. Miller can also be seen practicing with an Uzi in Libya. Later, all of the terrorists who attempt to kill Ryan in his house and capture Lord Holmes are seen using Uzis. Ryan commandeers Annette's Uzi and uses it during the fight in his home.
Heckler & Koch MP5A2
When Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) officers make their raid on an IRA bomb factory in Belfast, some of them can be seen carrying Heckler & Koch MP5A2 sub-machine guns. Theirs have "slimline" forearms and the old-style "waffle"-type straight magazines. DSS Agents outside Dr. Ryan's house and a Hostage Rescue Team responding to the IRA attack on Dr. Ryan's home can also be seen with MP5A2s, although theirs appear to have the wide-type forearms and curved magazines.
Shotguns
Armsel Striker
When defending himself against the IRA gunmen sent to kill him for disobeying his Brigade Commander's orders and attacking Lord Holmes, Kevin O'Donnell (Patrick Bergin) can be seen using an Armsel Striker cylinder shotgun, killing all three of his would-be assassins.
Over/Under Shotgun
During the terrorist attack on Dr. Ryan's home, Cathy Ryan (Anne Archer) retrieves a Over/Under Shotgun of unknown make and model, using it to club Annette when it's discovered the gun is unloaded.
