The Colt Flare Launcher is is a 37mm flare launcher built to looks like an M203 grenade launcher and is commonly mistaken for on in films on this site. It is preferred for film use over a genuine M203 mainly because, unlike the M203, it is not considered a Class III "Destructive Device" in the U.S. and is therefore not subject to NFA regulations. The 37mm Colt Flare Launcher can be distinguished from the M203 based on the following traits:

3. The Colt lacks a fold out trigger in the front of the trigger guard, which the M203 has.
