Sahara is the 2005 Adventure movie starring Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn and Penelope Cruz.
The Following guns were seen in the movie:
FN MAG
- FN MAG-58 Machine guns are seen mounted on trucks and boats, all manned by government troops.
Browning Hi-Power
- Seen in the hands of Govt. Troops and later commandeered by Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey).
Norinco Type 56-2
- The folding stock version of the AKS-47, made in China is seen throughout the film. Mostly a mix with other AK types, carried by Government Troops.
- Is there a 56-2? I thought Norinco Type 56 was with the wood stock and Norinco type 56-1 was with the folding stock.
- The Type 56-2 is the version with the side-folding stock, whereas the Type 56-1 is the under-folding version. But those look like 56-1s to me, and that's all I ever remember seeing in the film.
Sterling SMG
- Seen held by Touareg horsemen in the desert.
L1A1
- Used by a Mali sniper with a scope, but later commandeered by Al Giordino (Steve Zahn).
PKMS
- Govt. Soldiers are seen holding PKMS Machine Guns (7.62x54R).
Romanian AK "Romak 223"(??)
- Not 100% sure, but Al's rifle during a desert battle looks to be a Romanian Romak .223 AK Rifle. However it doesn't have the bulged wooden front hand guards and it has a threaded barrel (indicated by the muzzle nut and muzzle nut pin). Anyone else knows for sure, please let me know.
- Norinco Type 84 in .223. It has the hooded front sight, which makes it a Chinese AK. This one seems to have had its receiver cover replaced by an AKM-style ribbed one (all Chinese AKs usually have older smooth style) and the furniture looks to be after-market as well. This AK (and/or others like it) also appears in Casino Royale.
