According to Vash the gun was very inaccurate until it was improved by a gunsmith in Episode 3. The reason he keeps the revolver is because it the catalyst needed to activate his "Angel Arm" weapon. Vash's twin brother Knives carries a black version of the Revolver, and is revealed to have created both weapons. Vash's Revolver

A large cross-shaped gun carried by priest Nicholas D. Wolfwood. the first version is full of Colt M1911. The second version contacts a machine guns and a rocket launcher. Wolfwood used "Punisher" in till his death. Vash takes his gun as an act of honor, and uses it fighting against Knives.
