The short shaft makes me think it might not be a Stielhandgranate, but one of the various other versions. The German "potato masher" was 14 inches long, this Bulgarian one is 11 inches with a much bigger percentage of that the head:

And it's also possible it might be a Finnish M41 or even a Japanese grenade handle. Regardless, it looks like he's killing himself using just the detonator; this should project outside the grenade body, which supports the idea that this is something he made himself. rifle grenade is even historically correct. Branagh acts it out better some frames later (watch his eybrow).

why not refer to the bomb as well, since it is well researched too.

The grenade that Kenneth Branagh is holding is a Gewehrpanzergranate 30 also known as GewPzGr. 30 Rifle Grenade. - Phoenixent 18:05, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

In this picture there's written: "an SS officer...", he isn't an SS soldier. Look at the neck insignias, it has the Wehrmacht symbols. Pz.Abt.100 21:43, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

And when you see obvious mistakes like that, feel free to correct it as soon as you see it :) MoviePropMaster2008 04:25, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

For GM45's benefit ';)
