An M.H. Cole Knuckle Knife appears as the game's main knife.

The SP89

I can't believe that nobody noticed this anachronism, but I suppose it isn't the first time that Rockstar Games has goofed on firearm specifications in video games (much less, ones set in the past). 203.206.5.121 16:12, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

The Ithaca 37

This has beenn a really difficult gun to identify, so I just went to get confirmation: is this an Ithaca 37? -Gunman69 16:52, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
It is a Over and under double barrel shotgun. There are pictures of it in the double barrel shotgun page. This shotgun also appears in Liberty city Stories.-Oliveira 16:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

MP5 Thingamabob

It is not at all a safe assumption that the "SMG" is directly based on an SP89. Take into account A: the frankengun mishmash appearance of it, and B: the fact that both Vice City and Liberty City Stories had their own MP5K abominations that were very clearly not SP89's either. PersonOfInterest

Anachronisms?

I'm not sure if the US Army adopted the M249 in 1984, if so then the M249's appearance is anachronistic. Though you could explain that it's an FN Minimi. But then again, I'm not sure when the Minimi itself was put in production. The Beretta's presence is completely unrealistic as the XM9 trials didn't happen until 1985 and even then the Army didn't receive the M9 pistols until 1988. It would make more sense if they stuck with the 1911. Correct me if any of this is wrong though. Hughjefender

Its a M92 not a military issue M9, the original M92 was developed in the mid 70's. As for the SAW, it apparently got issued in '84 so its not anachronistic.---P226 19:43, 16 December 2011 (CST)

The M249 was adopted in 1982, and the Minimi itself was designed in 1974, so its presence is plausible (though I doubt the National Guard would have had them just 2 years after adoption). The XM16E1, which the devs probably confused with the M16A1, also isn't really an "odd choice" as the page says. It was only the US Marine Corps that adopted the M16A2 in 1984, while the US Army (which Fort Baxter belongs to) continued to soldier on with the A1 until 1988, making the XM16E1's presence relatively accurate. Besides, R* probably just didn't want to bother monkeying around with the game's code to have a burst-fire rifle, seeing it as quicker, simpler, and cheaper to just reskin the full auto "M4" from previous games. That said, while the SAW was first issued in 82, it only first saw combat in Operation Just Cause in 89, so it would absolutely be anachronistic to have soldiers pulling them out to attack Lance for being an awful character. Evil Tim (talk) 15:40, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
The M249 isn't used by in-game soldiers anyway; the only times it is scripted to be used is when arms dealer Phil Cassidy practice fires it at the start of the game and when the protagonist Vic fires it from a helicopter to escort Gonzalez to the airport much later in the game. Ammu-Nation stores also have unusable M249s on display (without their belt boxes). Also yeah, Lance was even more annoying in this game than in VC; the way he got fried here was one of my most satisfying moments in the game xD --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 17:57, 19 September 2018 (EDT)

MP5

I think that the composite MP5 in game actually has the appearance of the MP5K Reverse Stretch seen below:

MP5K "Reverse Stretch" - 9x19mm. This is a custom weapon created by combining an MP5K front end with a full-size MP5 receiver This results in an MP5K capable of accepting a standard MP5 stock, in this case an MP5F retractable stock.

Heckler & Koch MP5K with an MP5A3's stock - 9x19mm

Or it resembles the MP5K Non-Gun seen below:

And the Minigun is probably either a GAU-19 or a M197 Vulcan (or perhaps a hybrid between the two?)

The revolver held by the officer here, and the pistol seen here (is it even a real one, or just a generic cartoony one?) --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 09:07, 18 September 2018 (EDT)

Given both of those are semi cartoony artwork they aren't really identifiable as anything specific. The automatic is pretty generally drawn and has traits from about three different guns that I can see. And the revolver is likewise pretty generically drawn, though it does look to have a S&W style cylinder release for whatever that counts for. StanTheMan (talk) 11:24, 18 September 2018 (EDT)
Why am I not surprised anymore... although yeah, the revolver does seem to have S&W-esque parts (there's a better image of it here btw). --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 12:30, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
Dirty Harry style, model 29 with 5" barrel? --Slon95 (talk) 15:48, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
Revolver has fixed sights and looks more like a Smith and Wesson Model 10 or a Smith and Wesson .38/44 Heavy Duty. Pistol looks like a Glock rear slide and a Browning Hi-Power front slide kinda reminds me of those CZ-75 copies to an extent. Could be a Bren 10. And it seems to me, or does the Mossberg 500 is actually looks more like as the Remington 870? --Slon95 (talk) 11:15, 24 October 2018 (EDT)

Not that the model is detailed enough, but considering the shape of the trigger guard, I'd lean more towards Mossberg:

As I recall...

Wasn't this the one where they were experimenting with the getting-shot-in-cars mechanics for GTA IV and forgot to tone down VC's ridiculously aggressive one-handed shooting bike cops, meaning it's readily possible to get shot out of a tank? Evil Tim (talk) 15:56, 19 September 2018 (EDT)

San Andreas was the first in this (About the VCS - I do not know). And yes, in SA you could even get it with the help of cheat code, and see the clumsy animation of this - I still believe that this was originally planned as a standard feature for the player, and was simply not finalized. In conclusion, there is also a scripting mod that adds drive-by in the SA with normal animations, as in GTA 4/5. --Slon95 (talk) 16:07, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
I seem to recall that in the preceding game Liberty City Stories you could occasionally sustain some minor damage while in your car, but yeah in Vice City Stories it was definitely the jackpot. As for the bike cops, there wasn't any of them in Vice City, and while they were present in VCS they couldn't perform drive-bys from their bikes. It's only in San Andreas that they could shoot at you from their bikes - and yeah, they were pretty annoying.. --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 17:36, 19 September 2018 (EDT)
