A.W.O.L is a free arcade tactical shooter hybrid made in the Build Engine that has powered games like Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow warrior, Blood, and Ion Fury. Initially announced as Project AWOL in 2002 as a mod for Duke Nukem 3D, it was cancelled in 2005, but eventually revived in 2022 as a standalone game.
The game takes place in a comic book-inspired world where you play as Dwayne Allen, a discharged special forces soldier, as he joins his former squad in order to find their missing C.O. Gameplay has mechanics like leaning, bandaging, and simple squad mechanics
Handguns
Beretta 92FS
The Beretta 92FS appears in game as the "M9" and is the only handgun in the game. It is the starting weapon when players spawn into a chapter and accordingly is the weakest ranged weapon, dispatching foes with 2–3 shots to the head and 4–5 shots to the body. It uses "pistol" ammo that is shared with the MP5A3 and it is quickly replaced by the aforementioned MP5A3 as it takes the same inventory slot.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
The Heckler & Koch MP5A3 appears in game as just "MP5" with a "Tropical" Forearm and "Navy" trigger group and is the only submachine gun in the game. As mentioned above, it draws from the same ammo pool as the "M9" which is technically possible since both fire 9x19mm but use entirely different magazines. It is found on the first guard of the first mission "Going AWOL" and is commonly found on Dubai security forces and Russian nationalists in the "Going AWOL" mission
Rifles
M4A1
The M4A1 appears in-game as "M4". It is the second weapon that is acquired, correctly feeds from a 30 round magazine, and is full-auto only. It is used by Dubai security forces on the train level of "Dubai".
AKM
The AKM incorrectly appears in-game as "AK47" and is first found in the Colombia level. It deals the highest damage for an automatic weapon in the game and is commonly found on soldiers in Colombia and security forces in Dubai. Allen always cocks the charging handle on "empty" reload even if there is still ammo in the rifle.
Shotguns
SPAS-12
The SPAS-12 appears in game and it depicted as pump-action only, like in the Half-Life series, and correctly feeds from an 8-round tube. The world model has the stock (without the butt hook) folded but the viewmodel has the stock extended. It is used by Dubai shotgun troops and some Russian nationalists in the "Arctic" level.
Rocket Launchers
RPG-7
The RPG-7 appears in game as just "RPG" and fires a Soviet-era PG-2 HEAT rocket And uses default Rpg-7 style sights, it's first found at the prison section of the "Dubai" chapter to wipe out a squad of infantry while pinned down by infantry.
