Tom Clancy's EndWar is a real-time tactics game designed by Ubisoft Shanghai for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows platforms. The Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable versions feature turn-based tactics instead of the real-time tactics of their console counterparts. It was released on November 4, 2008 in the United States, November 6, 2008 in Canada, and November 8, 2008 in Europe. A Windows version was released on February 24, 2009.
The game's plot focuses on a World War III scenario in the then-future year of 2020 after a massive global energy crisis, where the superpowers of the United States, the European Federation and Russia battle for supremacy. Each nation has its own elite special forces unit: the United States, the Joint Strike Force (JSF); the European Federation, the European Federation Enforcer Corps (EFEC); and the Russian Federation the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade (SGB).
The following weapons appear in the video game EndWar:
Assault Rifles
M16A2
An M16A2 with an underbarrel grenade launcher is used by the US Army. The underbarrel grenade launcher doesn't look like an M203, looking instead like the fake underbarrel grenade launcher M203 mockup used in the film Predator.
Heckler & Koch XM8 Carbine
The Heckler & Koch XM8, named XM9 in-game, was intended to be used by US JSF soldiers and appeared in various pieces of concept art and one of the trailers, but was replaced in gameplay by the FN SCAR-H because the developers felt it was overused.
In real life, the XM8 was turned down by the US Army for its high cost, bare minimum improvement over the M16/M4, and the ineffectiveness of variant configurations (particularly the automatic rifle/light machine gun version) when compared with their purpose-designed counterparts in the same class.
FN SCAR-H
The FN SCAR-H chambered in 6.8x43mm appears as the "SCAR A1" and is the standard combat rifle of JSF troops. The design of it is a hybrid with the trigger unit of the prototype 1st gen model while the rest of the design is the production 3rd gen model. A similar hybrid model later appeared in Splinter Cell: Conviction. The in-game SCAR is not produced by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal, because US officials declared it to be a different design with its own patent and handed the contracts to American manufacturers. It was previously claimed on the game website that JSF Engineers used a compact carbine version called the "SCAR A1C", but in-game they instead use the standard model. The rifle is equipped with an Aimpoint red dot sight and a vaguely M203-ish grenade launcher.
FAMAS
The FAMAS is used by the European Federation's Army. It is called the "FMS AG2" in-game and is also said to be chambered for the "7mm" round.
FN F2000
The European Federation Enforcer Corps Kommandos and Grenadiers use a heavily customized FN F2000 chambered for the "7mm" round, dubbed "E3000 Carbine" in-game. It is customized with a scope (possibly an FCS). Artwork and the game's (now defunct) website claims it features an FN GL1 grenade launcher, but in-game it appears fitted with some kind of rectangular foregrip instead.
AKMS
The AKMS is used by the Russian Ru-20 "drones".
AK-74M
Heavily-customized AK-74M rifles are used by the Russian Wolves and Bears from the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade. They're modified with GP-series grenade launchers and PK-A red dot sights.
AKS-74UB
A Russian SGB Wolf operative is depicted with a 6S1 Kanareyka, a weapon system consisting of an AKS-74UB with a 30mm BS-1 grenade launcher, in concept artwork and in the game.
OTs-14-4A Groza
The OTs-14-4A Groza rifle is issued to Forgotten Army terrorist forces in the "Prelude to War" chapter. It is equipped with an unknown scope and a grenade launcher.
CAR-15
The CAR-15 is used by the "Forgotten Army" terrorist forces in cinematics.
Sniper Rifles
Barrett M107
Named the M120 in-game, the Barrett M107 is used by JSF snipers.
Mechem NTW-20
The Mechem NTW-20 sniper rifle appears as the "JO-2 .50 caliber sniper rifle" in-game, used by the EFEC Kommandos.
OSV-96
Known in-game as the "OSV 12.7 mm sniper rifle," the OSV-96 is used by SGB Wolves.
Miniguns
"M268 SAW"
A hand-held (although used by troops wearing powered exoskeletons) self-powered Gatling gun chambered in 6.8x43mm, known in-game as the "M268 SAW", is used in the squad support role by JSF forces.
Rocket Launchers
FGM-148 Javelin
An anti-tank rocket launcher resembling the FGM-148 Javelin is used by the JSF Pioneers as the "AT5CQ". The name suggests it may be a successor of the M136 AT4, although the AT4 is a disposable, unguided rocket launcher.
MILAN 2
A portable recoilless rocket launcher based on the MILAN 2 is known as "Milana-2" in-game and is used by EFEC grenadiers.
RPG-7/Panzerfaust 3 hybrid
The SGB rocket launcher used by Bear engineers appears to be a hybrid between an RPG-7 and a Panzerfaust 3.
M136 AT4
The M136 AT4 Anti-Tank recoilless launcher is used by "Forgotten Army" units.
