The Longest Yard is the 2005 remake of the 1974 Burt Reynolds sports film of the same name . Adam Sandler takes over the role of Paul "Wrecking" Crewe in the film, which also co-stars Chris Rock, James Cromwell, William Fichtner as well as Burt Reynolds himself, albeit in a different role. The film was directed by Peter Segal.
